I have been reading about method injection because E85 may be going away soon in my area. So I had a question while considering this: At what point does someone need to add meth? Is there a average power level? Certain boost limits?
I understand there are a few variables and its a broad question, but I have not found a solid answer and it seems around 350~whp people are starting to add meth. I know it helps prevent knock/lowers iat's ect. but I am curious as to when you need to run it. I haven't had the...privilege to run 91-93 octane and may have to soon. Thanks.

It's basically an octane raiser/lowers intake temps. When you have knock due to lower octane fuels or high intake temps, it helps eliminate that. There's no set hp number, it's whenever you are at as high a boost as you can run,(on pump) and you want(and can support) more.
 
I would say its something to get you over the hump. When your hitting the limits of your fuel setup or turbo, and you want to push it a little further w/o totally overhauling your setup, you could look into meth injection. An added bonus is that water/alky injection helps keep your internals clean.
 
I chose to run meth because of the super high intake temps during the hot summer months. Car ran awesome when it was cool out but was considerable slower during a 100F+ day. Meth fixed that in a hurry and car runs about the same not matter the time of year. Its cool to see the intake temps drop in boost

Just brought a meth kit a few weeks ago and this is good to know. Im in the florida heat and it was a questionable thing to get but reading that seams like it was a smart choice.
 
Its like crack for your car. Its cheap and if you do any tuning yourself it will keep ya busy for awhile.
 
I was running meth but decided to go bigger with the turbo an lay off the meth.
So when I put in a fmic I never installed a nozzle.

My current setup I run a 20g at 20lbs boost with no knock. However as soon as I put a mbc in the mix my boost jumps to 25lbs and I start getting knock.

I have not started to play with it yet but I am sure reconnecting the meth will take care of the knock.
 
Anytime is good to use keeping the engine running cool is always good. But I am not a fan of meth, sure if you you only can get pump gas use it but then it gets anoyying to me filling all time and make sure its ganna work right when you boost. But ya I am just not a fan. But use it if you want whenever on any car you want.
 
I got 4 gallons of boost juice when I got my stage 3 sno performance kit. What is better to run 50/50 mix or 100% meth. I was thinking about running the boost juice til it's gone then switching to 100%. Anybody have any advice?
 
use it or get when you are planing to run 20+ psi. because pump gas will make you knock. especially on California 91oct.
 
Methyl hydrate is a replacement for methanol, it's used in windshield washer fluid, you can buy it for cheap at some places (ie. napa).
 
Meth injection is pretty much a poor man's race gas. You want cheaper fuel, but you want high boost and big power. I run it, and I like what it has done to my spool up in terms of adding timing back, and I can run higher boost, but if I had better fuel available, I would go that route in a heartbeat. Higher octane fuel doesn't suddenly cut out, or blow a line, or just not come on and ruin your entire engine. The best thing you can do is research all of the meth fail-safes and then maybe every time you go WOT you won't be staring down your AFR gauge and you can enjoy the "cannon ball" effect of high boost.

If you go the meth route, buy new( or not abused), maintain your system, use the proper fluids, get a failsafe, and enjoy!
 
if available, go E85. as for your question.. meth has no point of benefit, it does not matter if your running a stock turbo/setup or a All out dragster.... a cooler intake charge will always yield beneficial..
 
I ran water/ meth injection with my e316g on 23lbs and could add up to 6 degrees timing in some areas with ecmlink. went from breaking loose in 2nd a little to completely spinning threw it and breaking loose in 3rd pretty easily. added some nice power for sure.
 
There is really no specific power level to start running water/meth. The methanol works as an octane booster to help prevent detonation and the water acts as an intercooler to help lower IATs which also prevents knock. I guess if there is any specific point to start using water/meth it would be when you start getting spark knock and don't want to sacrifice much ignition timing.

This is about the same answer I would give. The water helps lower IAT and the meth is an octane booster. I know some people run straight meth, but it will I would not suggest it due to the fact it is corrosive. Since not everyone can get E85 this is the next best option in my opinion. If you want more power add some water/meth to your setup. It gives you more flexibility with your tune which is always a plus.
