When did you stock clutch start slipping?

My car has been babied her whole life. Then I bought her :D naw, I take even better care than the original owner ever did, I'm just trying to give you an idea of the shape my car is in.

Some say as soon as they put an exhaust on their car their clutch started to go. For me as soon as I raise boost on a pretty much stock set up to anything over 15psi it slips like crazy. I was playing around at 17psi tonight and right at 3300 rpm and the car hit 17psi, the car would rev right up to about 6500. Clearly the clutch can't hold that much hp ( which can't really be very much on my setup).

When did YOU know it was time for a clutch?

A few of the simpler mods and my clutch said "Goodnight, Gracie." I don't think it was very fresh, however, and there were signs the previous owner had some fun with the car.

Before I bought my car, it had a new clutch at 190,000 kms while stock, after I got her, any high rpm launches (anything over 4500) at 15psi and about 230,000 kms I could often make it slip a bit. At repeated launches (at the drag strip), 60 ft times would get longer if the runs were close together. Basically, if you run the car hard (especially if you are AWD), your clutch life is relatively short.

I now have an ACT 2100 and it holds infinitely better than the stock replacement that was in there.

I hope that this helps.

Cheers!

Well, i bought my talon w/ 160k miles on it and it was stock. Did intake, exhaust, BOV, basics and the clutch lasted about 10k miles before slipping. Then i dropped in the ACT2600.

I bought my eclipse with about 70k miles on it and it was stock. That was about 9 months ago and its seen 10k-15k miles with all the mods i have on it now and it still hasnt started slipping. Actually, i'm hoping it will in the near future so i can go ahead and upgrade that, which also gives me a reason to get a bigger MHI turbo. Capt Obvious says, "It depends not only on the power your putting down, but how often you get into it, plus the existing condition of your clutch." Its gonna be a different story for everyone............

My '95 needed one when I got it at 66K -slipping in 4th and 5th- and my '93 gotten at 98K still hasn't needed one at 137K. I have no idea if it's the original, but it's very stiff and I doubt it.

I had my 96 NT Eclipse for about 15 months and it had around 100K on it (only intake for mods) when my clutch went. I never noticed it slipping or anything. One night, I pulled up to STOP sign and when I tried to take off, there was a loud THUD and I couldn't go. Freaked me the heck out. OMG

my stock clutch decided to let go just like defiant said. 3rd, 4th gear all the time. it finally got to the point to where it would slip at 3500 in 2nd. so i upgraded to an ACT 2600 and Streetlite flywheel. i had pretty basic mods before i swapped the clutch, pretty much everything except a turbo upgrade. so i was happy with it lasting that long.

yeah most of the cars here have higher miles than mine. I only have 80k on my car so i was somewhat impressed my t-25 would make my clutch slip so bad in 2nd gear.

I've been scared of this, though I knew it woudl happen eventually. A new clutch is just soo expensive..

my 1.8 has 160xxx miles on it and it doesnt slip....much ROFL

old 92 gst - clutch replaced at 62k (before I owned it) then I bought it at 109k with a slipping clutch and put an act2100 in it.

93 TSI - clutch slipping at 112k - act2600 will replace it.
