Ok I ve just been putting in Quaker State 10W30 full sny., but last weekend (two weeks ago) I went out of town and traded rides with my dad because the Dodge has alot more room, he said that he change the oil for me since it was two or three days from needing changing, I normaly change it myself and never thought of putting in any anything different than what the O.O. had in it. But my Dad just dropped her by his best freinds shop and he changed it to the same weight and brand, but not a full synthetic. Did this damage my engine any? She only has 58k on her. Sorry I got a little off topic, but it leads to my real question. Im gonna change the oil out this weekend and I wanna put the best oil in it I can so; Whats the best engine oil for my GST?

I have a nissan 300zx as my daily and i have ran every type of oil through it. Synthetic non synthetic , 50 weight 5 20 weight hell ive had ten types of oil in one jug an poured it in. No switching from synthetic to non will not hurt it how ever. Conventional oil builds up petrol against the engine seals, synthetic does not. Synthetic oil will eat away at this build up an cause leaks on an old engine, but your the other way around going synthetic to conventional oil so i see no risk if it really bothers you change it out. If your running synthetic i believe mobil one is the best off the shelf brand u can get anywhere, royal purple would be better then that but harder to find in stores where i live an the best would prob be amsoil. I would stick with the mobil one. Hell i have 2500 miles on my engine an run valvoline 10 30 regular oil.

i use only royal purple because of the zinc in it see most oils are zinc free due to tree huggers but royal still has some in it because its concidered a race oil and zinc is great for turbo motors because it slows down bearing wear:thumb::dsm:

the car has low enough miles on the engine, that you'd be fine running synthetic. if it's a higher mileage engine that's had conventional oil all it's life, the synthetic will break down built up oil deposits that are in the engine...which can cause leaks(some deposits might be covering seals that are drying out, and ready to leak...so once the deposits are gone, it's free to start leaking). thought I'd just throw that in there....so basically, you should be fine running what ever oil you'd like. synthetics are nice, in almost all cases. I personally have about 100k miles on my engine, and have run conventional valvoline 5w30 in it with no problems at all!! I hope someone else chimes in with some opinions too.

Synthetic Oils are nice, but if you're like me, drive you car well over 400 miles a week, $6+/quart just isn't worth it when you need to change your oil every month and a half or so. Putting conventional in didn't hurt it at all, but if you continue to use conventional for as long as you have the car and try switching back to synthetic you may come across a few leaks. To me, oil is oil since there's really not any "bad" oil like there used to be.

Personally I use 10w30 Mobil 1 synthetic oil or Royal Purple synthetic oil.

You need to understand the function of oil in your engine to grasp what the "best" is.

Oil is used to lubricate moving parts in your engine, essentially putting a film of oil between them. This reduces friction, and thus wear on the parts is less.

In our cars, it also provides cooling and lubrication of the turbocharger.

Now while a full synthetic oil is going to have better lubrication then conventional you need to decide if the difference in price is worth it to you. One nice thing about full synthetic is that the oil is less likely to coke in the turbocharger if you don't let the engine idle for a bit before turning it off after a hard run.

The fact is for years and years the racing teams have been using conventional oil and it's not until relatively recently have they been using synthetic.

So if your looking for the best of the best, fully synthetic like mobil 1 is what you want. If you'd like to save yourself some money, and still get 99% of the performance, and I use that word loosely, get conventional.

Royal Purple or Mobil1, and Mobil1 is reasonably priced at Hellmart.

Castrol GTX high mileage if you insist on conventional

will be using this soon:

still wondering when this 10w-60 will come to the states (without buying it at the BMW stealership):

will probably stick to the 10w-50... but was curious about the EDGE (supposedly their best oil ever)

I would never use Quaker State or Pennzoil (same oil)... there are two big reasons
