so coming from an lsx series engine in all the chevy's ive had i am preset to think mobil 1 sythetic but what is the best oil for a 4G63t? and what weight.. winter time is coming but i usually run a little thicker of a weight ### i beat up a car and i like to know its lubricated and has good oil pressure. whats the general decision on this?

Rotella 15w-40 is a really good oil it is high in zinc and that is good for valves and cam lobes only down side that i have had is your oil turns black faster and if you have a oil leak or valve seal leak it will burn blacker smoke than normal

I've never had the oil turn black faster than any other oil, in fact it seems to stay cleaner longer than other oils.

I second that...We put over 2000, maybe 2500 miles on my girls car and it was still clear...I added a half a quart ot a full quart of regular oil and in about 500 miles it turned black..

ok rotella it is LOL how about plugs? i got a 16g and 560cc injectors im not rlly sure what kinda boost i wanna run yet (as safe as i can go no tune) but i wanna leave some room to grow (heat range wise)

maybe it was just with my cars. I love it its the only oil i run in my dirt track race car (650HP Naturally aspirated chevy 350) and i also run 1 qt of lucas so maybe thats why mine does that. I will also be running it in my 95 gsx when ever i get it finished. As for plugs i am not sure my car has those E3's in them was told those are good but your looking at around $4 a plug

Coil on plug really isn't needed our stock setup is pretty capable, most people tell you NGK BPR6es are the best to go with and as you add more power just go a little colder plug wise, you would probably be fine with the BPR7es

COP is actually less efficient unless you have an aftermarket ignition. Anything other than Copper core plugs is just wrong on the stock ignition. Don't do it.

ok well after reading that entire article pertaining to oil ive decided to go with valvoline 20w50, but the thing that bothers me is they suggest royal purple which i heard was no good for the journal bearings in turbos?

I would not run 20/50 in any thing under 50* F. Run stock plugs in the winter as well NGK copper ONLY.

Those are the correct plugs.
As far as oil thickness and letting your motor run all the wear and damage is at start up when the oil is thick. Letting your motor run at idle is not a good Idea eather as all that does is just waist gas 5 min is the most you need on the coldest days.
The best oil to run in the winter is a synthetic oil as it flows so much faster at freezing temps compared to standard oil.
Personally I have ran Mobil 1 5/40 turbo diesel truck and would be my first choice in the winter months. I got it at autozone not sure if its still available as this was 4 years ago.

I used to run rotella t in everything I own, 15w40 and then switched 5w40 synthetic. I'm now running Valvoline VR1 20w50 in my DSM.

The shell rotella synthetic 5/40 would be another great choice.

E3 plugs Pens oil??? you gotta be kidding me....
I wouldn't put E3 plugs in my lawn mower (and that what there for)
I never put pens in my car after I seen a qt of it freeze in a freezer (the other qt next to it didn't)

NGK plugs and mobile 1 or clean mobile or Valvoline or anything else but pens. for the most part oil is oil as long as you change it ever 3k you'll be fine just depends on what you use the car for.

5 minutes? My oil takes much longer than 5 minutes to get up to operating temps around 200-212F, where viscosity is optimal. I don't let my car idle too long before I start driving it, but I drive it very lightly until my oil gets up to temp (~15min of driving). If you wait 5 minutes after a cold-start and start ragging on the car, I can guarantee your oil isn't up to temperature yet and is still too thick.

I agree on the second part though, one of the biggest benefits of synthetic oil is that it flows much better cold than regular oil.

A synthetic that I'm going to be trying is German Castrol. Its HUGE on other forums, especially on Bobistheoilguy.com and is considered one of the best synthetics based on many used-oil analyses. I'm not sure why it hasn't ever caught on in the DSM community. It's on sale now so I picked some up and will be giving it a shot once my engine passes 1500miles.

I've always used 10w30 royal purple in my talon and use BPR7ES plugs, i do more city driving than anything with this car so i need a more "normal" (if you would) oil. I boost 28psi in this car and plugs have never failed. I use 20w50 in my other dsm boosting 42psi and use BPR9ES plugs with no issues, plugs all cost the same from the site i get em from (roughly $17/set with shiping), just depends on what ones you need for your application. At the same time tough, to each their own, just depends what you use the car for, how you drive it...theres a lot of factors.
