scarborough,
i want to change all the oil for my drivtrain ...just wanna know whats the best out there that you guys have use for my 5speed tranny,x-case and rear end?

I have always used RedLine. There is also BG Synch or Shep suggests Pennzoil Synchromesh. You can't go wrong with a suggestion from Shep!LOL

When I first got my 2g it was a little hard to shift into second without grinding. But since i put in the Penzoil Syncromesh in it now shifts like a dream in every gear.

I like royal purple my self, or Mobil 1 for the engine. Both great, the pennzoil suggested by Shep is good to use, I used it over the past summer, and Ive heard good things about BG SynchroMesh II. Also like the first 2 poster's stated search before asking a question that has probably hundreds of threads about it.

Just help the poor guy out go with REDLINE MT90 and you wont regret it whatever you do take dont get anything cheap... redine makes one of the best fluids.

what about the lucas one. does anyone have anyexperience with that

Everyone I know and myself use BG Syncromesh II. Its like a night and day difference (no exaggeration), and it should be for what it costs. For the T-case and rear diff I use BG Ultra Guard 75-w90. Whatever you get make sure its synthetic.

i changed the cv joint in my passenger side of my awd tsi and replaced with syncromesh and ive only had positive results since the refill....a++ product that has had nothing but good to come out of it!!! forgot to mention the manual recommends anything gl4 and up for the transmission, and this is the only thing htat i have had experience withso far

+1 on Royal Purple, i used it when when my 2nd gear got a lil notchy and helped alot.

Which redline oil would you guys suggest for our use?

MTL and MT-90 Are going to be your primary REDLINE fluids. I ran Both! after my trans build from TRE.

I used MTL with 1k on the trans, overall it was great protection on the syncros and shifted well.

Then changed to MT-90 and found it same great protection but a bit thinner and shifting felt smoother. Was also early winter and the thinner fluid helps with cold transmission shifting. You should not be shifting the trans hard or doing anything you liketo do to your dsm until that fluid is up to operating tempeture. An easy was to tell is to grab the vicous coupler area of the tranmission (passanger front bottom side where its circular) and when this area is warm your trans is now at temp. It takes a good 15 minutes for mine to be warm.

Pennz Syncromesh that you buy at advanced is good for cold starts but is too thin when hot and its like piss water imo. And will speed up wear on your syncros once it is like water. Which is why redline is better because it is thicker to protect but does not sacrifice shift quality.

What about the shockproof? We use super lightweight in our racecars(not DSM) but I figure heavyweight for the transfer case and rear? I thought I read (maybe in this thread and I am forgetting) that someone used lightweight shockproof in their tranny...
