I have been trying to find a new turbo for my 98 eclipse gsx. I just finished school and now have time to work on my car. I was looking at

Forced Performance Turbochargers: FP 68HTA for DSM
or Forced Performance Turbochargers: FP GREEN for DSM.

It would be nice to only swap the turbos out, but i know may need to replace a few parts to make the turbos fit. I just need a turbo to get me by until i re-smog my car. I have researched the turbos and need something fairly easy to replace. My budget is around $1.5 and i dont mind going a little over.

Well look at the site and find one you like for your goals if you have the money. Get the proper mods while your shopping for your turbo, fuel, fmic, tuning devices.

Get a holset, either a hx 40 with tubular manifold or a 35 with bep bolt on housing. The bep housing allows you to use the stock manifold, but may require denting the water pipe.

Well if you only have 1,500 to send on a setup, you may want to go a little smaller so you can spend some of that money on supporting mods. Could just get a used e316g with supporting mods for your price range. If you buy that 1,400 turbo, be ready to spend another 1,000 or so to upgraded fuel, tuning, ect.

Pick up a holset for 400-500. Oil lines will run you almost 100. Get a waste gate o2 housing for 300-400. Then you still have around 500+ for a manifold, injector, link, or some cams!!

If you need to stay stock-appearing, then definitely the 68HTA or one of the EF turbos from MAP.

If you don't need to remain stock-appearing, there are a ton of options for the money you're looking to spend.

What do you want a really want? a really nice new turbo? any turbo that reaches your power goals? only reason I said holset is because you can get the whole setup for under 1500. Otherwise go buy a 35r

I have the FP Green and its a great turbo, but you also have to have the supporting mods, FMIC, bigger injectors, bigger fuel pump, Something to tune with, it adds up fast.

if your budget for the total install is just 1500 then find a used 14b, 16g, or a holset.

Both of those are great turbos, the 68HTA if you need one that looks stock. The green is the better bang/buck turbo.

Go with the 68HTA. Great flow, quick spool, stock appearing, and only the water/oil lines will need to be replaced. But like others are saying, you should look into the supporting mods as well. You won't get very far with either turbo if your still on the stock fuel system.

I'm not sure on a 2g, but I went with the 68hta and it bolts right up. However, if I remember correctly I've over heard some 2g owners say you have to get a new oil feed or return line for the after market 16g/68hta turbo. Something about its not the rIght length or Bend in the line

Yes, with a 2g (which has the abomination Garrett T25) the water lines must be changed. The oil return is also too short and the flange bolts on the turbo side are too narrow. I don't know about the feed line, but it's never a bad idea to go SS line anyways so might as well change it out.

this past february i purchased a precision 6266 turbo, tial wg, full 3in straight exhaust flanged for the 6266..i was missing a few other supporting mods but my goal was 2 buildup my 1g tsi dd to a track car..currently on the car at the time was a big16g, fp exhaust mani, nd big buscher fmic i bought for the new setup nd mounted a few days before i bought the turbo setup..ne ways i was messing around nd was racing one of my friends nd at the time i was pushing about 24+lbs (LOL) on a mostly stock fuel setup except for RC550s..ne ways i started hearing some clunking and to make a long story short..i havnt driven it since.. car wudnt start ne more..moral of my story as well as evryones on ths topic is if thts ## limit make sure a nice % goes into the supporting mods..or ull end up wit a situation like mine..most injectors like F.I.C's run up between 300-500+ depending on high ud want..pumps nd lines another 200+,fpr's 150-250+, the prices wil run higher nd higher..not 2 mention tuning 480-500+ from wher im from...i ended up trading my turbo for a 2.3 stroker (short block)..ironically im looking at these 2 turbos now for my build but ths time around ill have the support to run boost effectively

btw its good to kno some vendors on the site offical or non official..i get my parts from a couple guys who buy nd thn part out dsms

PTE's bolt right up. Stock mani, stock 02 housing. Im running one now. Had to dent the water pipe. T04E cover. Runs good so far.
If your starting from a stock setup your looking at well into the 5000 dollar range with everything. More if you want forged internals and a fresh motor. Ive got 10k in mine so far and im mild compared to alot of guys here.

Witout the supporting mods and 1500 as budget I would rather go with holset, cheap efficient and long lasting turbos, I have an hx40 waiting to be mounted after my fp red dies so I can see what is better for my setup.

Good luck

Thanks for the help guys! I was hoping to find a turbo that would bolt right in and would be able to boost up when i have more supporting mods. I am looking for at least 300 hp to start with. I will be using this car to drive around on mountain roads *nothing crazy* and in the future as a track car maybe. I understand that i wont be getting the full potential of the turbo without any supporting mods. For now i need to pass CA smog test =(.
