is it not possible to run the drivers side piping underneath the car instead of running it around like that? And keeping your stock a/c fan w/o dumping for a slim one?

you can run the in/out of the intercooler whatever direction you wanted. haha

I'm such a n00b

thans for the pics.

Oh and where did u get your pipes?

He sells a complete kit includes piping clamps and hoses!

you could run the piping through the radiator support on the driver side but it was easier to do it that way since I still have ac and power steering cooler. You dont want to run it under the car because it will hang too low and you will eventually rip it off.

I made my own ic piping from mandrel bent pipe. I think I spent a total of $80 on the piping and I made my own flange for the turbo outlet and bov. I would not consider making the piping unless you have experience with metal fab and welding.

do you know how much?

this kit pipies through the core support, just like buscher, indy, and the rest of the pro race kits. You do have to enlarge the holes on the sides of the radiator, but it is not that hard, the intercooler bolts directly to the bumper. The cfm is 660 onthe 7" and 980 on the 10" the kit is $650 in the 7" and $800 in the 10". UPS will take 5-6 days and cost $55. Lead time is 1 day on the intercooler and 2 days max on the kit. The kits are unpainted, but are brushed finish, looks like stainless

That was an e-mail I recieved from him

He also offers different kits

I have pics of the kit he sent me they are kinda big

can you send them to me? [email protected]

i want to check them out.

considering the FMIC is roughly $300 one could fab theri own piping and have an awesome set up for lil to no money at all

I just purchased a 25" x 5.5" x 2.75" intercooler for my 1g from jr. I was trying to figure out which way im going to run my turbo to intercooler inlet piping. I was wondering if it would hurt the flow to run the piping from the turbo and have it come out to the left of the radiator (passenger's side), and then run a long straight pipe to the drivers side and connect it to the intercooler with a 180 degree bend? Would this hurt the flow too much? Should I just run the piping between the fans and turbo and have come out on the right side of the radiator?

thanks for the info :thumb: My friend is going to help me with it and I've spent alot of times over the past few weeks trying to figure out how I'm gonna run the piping. The 2 holes in the bumper are about 30" apart and I got the endtanks facing the rear, so I should be able to hack away at the holes and run them through. I found a place on ebay selling couplers at a much lower price than I've found, plus my friend w/ a turbo civic uses them and he pushes a good bit of boost through them w/ no prob.

But I'm gonna run 2.5" piping through the drivers side hole, turn it parallel to the radiator and up into the turbo. I think I could get my friend at an exhaust shop to make up a j-bend by just buying a flange and having him weld it on for me.

And the passenger side I should be able to run it basically straight back to the manifold and also get someone to weld on my stock bov flange.

your planned path sound pretty round-a-bout crazyboost, I'd just go b/t the turbo/fans and have a 180 bend around the radiator into the i/c.

mach1one, did jr weld the inlet/outlet rear facing for you? if so I will probably ask him to do that to mine as well. Going between the radiator and manifold sounds like the easiest/shortest way to me as long as the piping would fit. I'm probably going to buy a throttle body and compressor outlet flange along with some mandrel bends from RRE and fabricate my own piping. I'm debating about 2.5" or 2.25" piping.

yeah I got mine facing the rear and diagonal from each other. I've seen some installs where people have run 2.5" piping and have it fit w/o needing a slim line, though I'm sure 2.25 would be easier. I'm going w/ 2.5"

Mine should be here tomorrow, and I might pull the bumper off just to see how they line up this weekend. It'll be awhile before I actually run the piping though.

I ran 2.5" ic pipes and thats why I went with a 180* over the ic and used that for the uicp. Ac and ps lines were too much for me to mess with. You have to do a lot of bending on the ac lines on the driver side and I didnt want to run the risk of creating a leak. My goal is to have a really fast car with ac, leather and all the stock street trim heaviness.

Even with the long ic pipes and 2.5" size, my b16g is fully spooled to 20psi by 3000 rpm.

Just an update, I received mine a couple days ago, pretty nice. I got the endtanks diagonal and now I"m wishing they were straight across or straight out. I pulled the bumper off, and on the outlet side (outlet is on bottom) I'm looking at having to hack off some of the metal since the outlet hangs down so low.

So would you recommend I get the outlets facing the rear and both be in the center? or have them facing the sides and both be in the center? By the way JR is taking a while to respond to my emails, I've emailed him twice within the past week and a half and no response yet. Is this the usualy delay for the guys who bought from him?

if you're gonna go towards the rear on the same size I got, get both inlet/outlet at the top. The inlet lines up almost perfect, but w/ my outlet being on the bottom I'm going to have to cut some metal to get the pipe to go through the hole.

And you will have to do some cutting of those 2 D-port holes to get the pipes through. It doesn't look to be a whole lot.

Running towards the rear you can run the shortest piping, running out the side is a bit easier. Running out the sides in the center looks to be the easist, but it'll take a bit of piping. If you were on a budget you could just connect into the stock uip and save some bucks, but that's a good bit longer than just running it short style.

I don't believe it makes a huge difference either way. Get them out the sides/center or facing the rear/top position. Either way would be fine.

Don't worry about the emails, I don't believe he responded to mine either. I just ordered it anyway and it came pretty quickly. You just need to figure out how you want the inlet/outlet + size on your own, he's probably pretty busy and gets flooded w/ those type of emails.

I wish I did, I ran into some problems. First I decided not to cut the bumper, as that corner is reinforced and some pretty thick metal, so it's probably best not to cut it. So I took it to a muffler shop that I frequent to get him to flip the face of the outlet upside down, so it'd line up w/ the inlet. Seems easy enough, cut face out, flip, re-weld shut.

2 days later I came back to find out he couldn't do it. I told him I spent about 200$ on the IC and he handed it to me w/o any hassle. He couldn't reseal the IC back up, so that IC is done for. So now I ordered a Johnny Racecar 30x6x2" IC since it's about the same size, 200$ shipped, and the endtanks look like they flow alot better than what I had.

Plus I ordered a turbo outlet elbow from extreme motorsports, and that's not here yet either :thumbdown They failed to tell me it was going to be on b/o before I ordered it.

So I hope to have it finished by around the 17th. I'll definately post pics when I get it working :thumb:

i got dsmmotorsports budget fmic kit for my 1g.......great kit love it, measurements are
core 18/6.5/3.5...........with end tanks....23/6.5/3.5.....great improvement over side mount
running it with a bucshur ported/clipped 16g....rc 550cc.....3inch turboback........car is a beast.....to me feels really good........but fmic work best when they are thicker...don't buy on if its not at least 3'' thick....if not than it won't even be as efficient as the stocker....because it'll heat soak like hell before it reaches the motor....think about before
you buy.......height doesn't matter as much as length and thickness..just my 2 cents

Here are some pics of the intercooler I purchased from JR. It is very nice and seems to be high quality. As you can see I have the inlet/outlets facing the engine in order to have the shortest piping possible. The 2.5" piping was also purchased from JR...I was gonna paint the piping but kinda like the "custome made" look. I used tin cutters/pliers to cut away quite a bit of metal on each side of the radiator in order to get the piping to fit/lineup. The coolant overflow tank needs to be relocated further in. I will have to fab up some brackets to hold the fmic in place since I no longer use the front bumper support. I cant wait to take it down the 1320 again...

Check this out guys. I finally have my FMIC from JR insalled and noticed that it seems to sit a little too low. It actually petrudes below the front bumper about 2-3 inches. As you can see I mounted it directly to the bottom of the front bumper support bracket. Does anyone see a problem with this? Thanks for the advice.

You got a taller IC, so I would suggest cutting your bumper support a few inches and mount the IC up higher.

The short IC's fit perfectly. (6" tall?)

yo GSX LAUCH what J-pipe is that. that sucka is huge!!

If I had a nickle for every time I heard "that sucka is huge!!" I'd have one nickle. :thumb:

Got the piping kit from JR as well. I think it looks good. I was gonna paint it, but I think I will stick with the custom made look. I hope to have her running by this weekend. I have three projects going on at the same time; FMIC w/ piping, balance shaft removal, and clutch and flywheel replacement.
