Sorry I dont mean to chime in here...but I am about to purchase this unit

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=33742&item=2480935414

It measures 25x7x3. Seems like a great deal for the price and should be a big boost over my stock smic. I was going to purchase the 5.5" tall unit but he said my egt temps would be lower with this unit...The guy selling these seems knowledgeable and responsive. We will see.

The add says it's 30x7x3... I'm sure you could make it fit. You might have to hack away some of your bumper cover to really take advantage of it though. :talon:

Sorry the core measures 25x7x3....tank to tank is 30", tube to tube is 33". I am going the short route piping with the outlets facing the engine. I will make it work...

Hey guys, I am also trying to buy one of these kits but JR isn't returning my emails!! What should I do? I want the complete kit with the 25x7x3 core but endtanks facing in? Do you guys know if I can keep my a/c ?

In short, yes.

I had to bend the power steering lines up and over the IC inlet pipe. The AC lines on both sides were bent to go under the piping.

After the fact, I seen some pics of what looked like the driver's side AC line being bent to go over the IC inlet pipe. I guess it all depends on what or how you see it, once you're in there.

I paypal'd JR the money for mine last Friday...I also have sent him about three e-mails and have not heard back. I am starting to get a little worried...I hope everything is okay.

He answered all my questions promptly before I actually made the purchase though??

He will E-Mail you he had some sort of emergency at the shop last week.

try to take as many pics if you can , we would love to see the install

Id be happy to...the only difference is that I do not have the bumper support...so I will have to fab my own bracketry to hold the fmic in place. I will take as many pics as I can, thanks.

TT

I heard back from JR...he said that once the "e-check" goes thru he would ship it. Can someone tell me what "e-check" is?

Electronic Check when you are set up with paypal they send the payment electronicly to your account. Ensures quick payment.

It'd definately be awesome if some of you guys who have this installed could take pics for us... That IC is exactly what I'm looking for, but I'm wary about having to fabricate my own piping for it, since I want to connect it to the stock location instead of using the short route kit.

figured I'd subscribe, my fiance gave me the green light for a fmic so I've been following this guy's auctions as well.

I'm gonna buy the 220$ one (don't have the link ready) sometime next week hopefully and run my own piping. I'd like the inlet/outlets to face the rear and be diagonal from each other. From what I've read having the inlet/outlet facing the back makes the plumbing easier.

I emailed him last week and he has yet to respond. I think I answered my own questions already so no biggie. Just wanted to subscribe and I'll also try and document the install.

welcome to the discussion. hopefully I'll be getting one the end of this month. :thumb: and he takes awhile to reply. Guess hes busy makin IC's

for any of you guys saying these intercoolers are not good try reading his auctions, this guy knows whats up. here is a picture of his 950hp 300zx using one of his ic's

and a little piece from an auction

This is the same core as I use on my 9sec 950hp turbo chevy v8 300zx except that core is 10.5 tall. When we dynoed the temp in to the intercooler was over 285 and air out was 133, wich is over a 150' drop in temp. This shows that this is very effiecent core and it only takes 10.5" to support 950hp, Which means this 7" unit is good for alot of power. We also run this exact core on our 11sec t66 rx7 wich has outlet temps of 290 at the turbo and 120 at the manifold after the intercooler.

Like I said before........you got to start somewhere, maybe if he put a fancy name on the front of it and paid thousands of dollars for testing he could charge 800.00 for the FMIC :thumb: I respect him for doing what he does much love for those who help the DSM comunity!

So just to make sure I have this right, it's best to have the inlet/outlet diagonal to force air to go through more of the ic, as if they're straight across it'll take the shortest path.

And if I was going to DIY piping, I'd want the outlets facing towards the rear? I plan on keeping my a/c fan and I have a cad of some guy on here IC pipe going underneath the fans, so I might try that.

"This is a custom made intercooler suitable for most applications up to 600hp.You will get one exactly like the one pictured and it will have beaded tubes! The core measures 25x7x2 .8 , the tank to tank is 30" and tube to tube is 33", and has 2 1/2 inlet and outlets. This intercooler features our hybrid bar and plate - tube and fin core. It gives you the best features of both designs. It has very fine internal fins normally only found in bar and plate units. These internal fins are only .004 thick and run from top to bottom in the tube. This makes it far more effiecient than all extruded tube cores, as the thinnest fin that can be extruded is .020 and the fin spacing is much afrther apart. These fins are also louvered and staggered to give 4x the heat transfer area of most of the other bar and plate cores except garrett. The other highlight of this core is that these fine internal fins are stuffed inside a round nosed tube to give much more airflow thru the core than bar and plate, so the radiator stays cool. Also the tubes on this core change thickness: they are very thin in the middle of the core to aid heat transfer from the outside fins to the inside fins. Then as the tube approches the front of the core it goes from .040 thick to .120 thick at the nose so it can withstand rocks and debris at over 100mph. This is our best core, we carry bar and plate, tube and fin, and extruded tube cores, but this is what we feel is the best core hands down. If you must have an extruded tube or bar and plate core search my other auctions for quality intercoolers with these designs. It has been pressure tested to 35psi and does not leak. The end tanks are made of heavy wall material and will not crack even under extreme heat. The in/out are bead rolled and hand ported for the best flow. We run 22psi on pump gas where most others can ony run 18-20max until detonation. This extra 2psi is due to the very cool charge air as it does not detonate as soon. This size has been installed on crx's,rx7 fc&fd,1st&2nd gen talon eclipses,integras,94 supra, and 1st gen 300zx. It is one of my best selling sizes and is a beautiful piece, you wont be dissappointed. It comes with a warrenty and quality garuntee"

This write up alone is worth 1/4 of the price IMO. The 22psi on pump is what sold me...I was getting 15-20 counts of knock at about 17 psi on pump with the stock smic. I put in race gas and have not seen any knock at 21psi. Hopefully with this 30x7x3 unit I can run around 20-22 psi on pump with 0-4 counts. It should be shipping today.
