Alright, so i just bought my 94 GSX, and it's only got 75000 miles on it. I'm thinking about doing a preventative maintenance on it and was wondering what kind of diff fluid i should use and trans fluid, not gonna be doin any major racing or anything. Maybe some honda's and mustangs but thats it.:D The lady i bought it from used mobil 1 oil in it since she bought it, but i don't think she did a diff or trans change so. Also anyone know why i have a exhaust like smell when i get on it a lil. Just wierd to me haven't seen any leaks so. anywayz let me know guys. Thanx

The exhaust smell is probably an exhaust leak, use Seafoam to find it.
For transmission fluid I suggest getting Pennzoil Syncromesh or BG Syncroshift. If its your transfer case or rear diff. I suggest using Red Line Heavy weight Shock Proof Gear Lube, you might not be able to find it local since most auto parts stores don't carry the stuff.

Sounds like you found a good 1g, take care of her.

This thread is going to blow-up since its opinion based, its pretty much going to come down to you deciding.

I've never ran Red Line MT-90 transmission fluid so I can't speak from personal experience, I have however had good results with the two I suggested but haven't ever heard bad things about Red Line MT-90 either. I've also heard good stuff about Mitsubishi DiaQueen Tranny fluid, its the stuff the Mitsubishi manual calls for in the Evo service manual. Its expensive as hell because its Mitsu but Jacks Transmissions buys it in bulk and you can get it for $10/qt... DiaQueen (Jacks Transmissions)

I am just switching to MT-90 its pricey but hope I have better luck with it. In the past I used the Pennzoil Synchro mesh and I have had 2 transmissions go out on me with epic failure and one was a non turbo car so I don't believe it was the horsepower doing it ^_^. I paid like 13 bucks a qt. at a local race shop for MT-90.

Here's your choices for what I'd recommend.

T-case/Diffs
-Red Line Heavy Shock Proof
-Red Line Lightweight Shock Proof

Transmission
-Daiqueen
-Red Line Lightweight Shock Proof
-Red Line MTL
-Red Line MT-90
-Pennzoil Synchromesh
-BG Syncroshift

For the t-case/diffs, I would suggest using Lightweight Shock Proof unless you plan on doing a lot of drag racing.

For the transmission, I'd use the Daiqueen if you can. The Lightweight Shock Proof would be good for a drag racing setup. The MTL is less thick than the Lightweight, but thicker than the MT-90. I personally use a combination of the MT-90 (2 bottles) and the MTL (1 bottle). Then the Pennzoil and BG are thinner than the Redline fluids.

Wow, didn't realize Jack's had the Daiqueen for that cheap. That's even cheaper than buying Red Line. I swore it was much more expensive than that.

It typically is, thats why I'm running Syncromesh in my stock tranny with 100k on it. I figured once I spend the money on a built transmission I'd fork out the cost for the DiaQueen fluid. While I was doing some research on it though I found that Jack's Transmission sells if for REALLY cheap since they buy it in bulk.

Ok so next question is how much does the Diff, Transfer Case Take, and how much trans fluid?

For any questions like this you need to really dig your head around a 1g service manual, heres an online version... Download the 1g Service Manual I'm not saying that because I think your trying to be lazy either, I'm saying that because what if I just gave you some B.S. info on how much each takes and then you destroy your transmission because you didn't put in enough fluid?

Capacities:
- AWD transmission 2.3 qts
- Transfer case .5 qt
- Rear differential .9 qt
