What should I do with my transfer case while it's off the car?

I saw a video of how to inspect the tcase for play, and that's helpful. I see quite a bit of rust on this input shaft. The transfer case has had the recall done in the past (I think), it has about 60K since then (or possibly more). I don't know the total miles on this tcase I think it came from another car. My chassis has about 250K on it.

I have not checked for play yet but I will and reply.

Anyway; here's the pics of the outside. Based solely on appearance, should I do anything to this besides change the fluid? What should I do about the rust?

I gave it a feel; no play with the input or the output. The output looks like new I think, the input I took another pic it really needs replaced! Rusty and sharp pointy :O

If powerwash the case, it’s filthy and just run it. I’ve never had tcase issues, generally speaking they are stout little units.

Maybe input and output seals but I agree with @SasaniFab unless it is super sloppy.

I’d try to clean the input with a brass brush as best as possible and apply anti seize when reinstalling. It’s leaking from somewhere so maybe time for new seals
