I think I am going to go with one of the 2 1/2"Punishment Racing downpipes and then have a local shop do a custom 2 1/2" w/ test pipe,no emissions tests here is Tulsa,Ok. I just do not want to blow money on a muffler that sounds like BRRRRRRRICEE. Any advise Please.
Also any input on the things above I am thinking about.

I have an Apexi N1 catback exhaust. It's deep but I wish it had that deeper rumble when idling. Does replacing the stock downpipe make it sound different? And would I be able to weld a magnaflow muffler onto it?

why would you even think about putting a diffrent muffler on the n1. the n1 sounds alsome with no cat and full 3'' turbo back. get some 272's and the thing is just sick. stick with n1 in the long run you will love it trust me.

thermal is another alsome exhaust if you want a diffrent exhaust, its realy deep

It is dependent more on the car than the actual exhaust you put on it. I've heard cars that have a ricer buzz with magnaflow mufflers and apexi N1s. While if you put either one of those on a dsm it would come out sounding pretty nice.

That being said I run a HKS exhaust and enjoy the tone very much. I've also heard a magnaflow and it sounds just as deep, although louder. Depending on how loud you want it to be I would pick from those two, with the greddy evo being an option if you just wanted the tone but without the volume. Any muffler you decide to go with isn't going to sound all that bad, and there any many other brands out there that are close or comparable to the brands I mentioned. So whatever exhaust you decide to go with I think you'll be happy.

Well, i am very very happy with my greddy evo! But i think the best bet is, if you are doing all the piping custom yourself, would be to get a magnaflow! Magnaflow is a great quality and sound awsome! my friend had one on his single slammer civic, and it made it sound decent! so if a muffler can make a honda sound good, it will do wonders for your car! but as stated above, no matter what you get, if you are turbo it will sound mean as hell! but magnaflow is proven to work perfect with custom mandrel bent exhaust systems! good luck with the decision and keep us updated!

If you look in my gallery you can see a Magnaflow. It is 3" inlet and outlet. It is not a great pic, but you can tell it is not some grapefruit shooter.

I have gotten compliments from V8 guys to riceburners. It has a nice tone.

I warn the faint at heart. It is a loud/deep sounding muffler. I even have a 18" bullet muffler on the straight piping in the system and the only thing it gave me is a nice quiet rumble at highway speeds from 2k-3k in 5th gear. If you stay off it around cops you will be good, atleast I have. The only time I got pulled over for it was when I was stopped at a light at 2:30 in the morning. The cop pulled next to me, then reversed behind me and waited for me to go. As soon as the light turned green he threw on the blues.

i love my magnaflow, i jsut have to get custom pipping now to make it louder, it is too quiet with stock piping/resinator/cat

2.5' inlet, 5' tip:thumb:

Comming soon, custom straight pipe from o2 back:cool:

If you have money to spend go with Thermal. They sound so good. They are quiet but deep until WOT. I am personally going with Dynomax only because of money issues.

magnaflow does sound nice and throaty ive heard them on muscle and damn they sound good...but in school we found that magnaflow is not soo good performance-wise

Not so good perforance wise? If you gonna make a statement like that back it up. Magnaflow has been proven many times to out-perform many other brands. I'd like to hear your reasoning.

all im going by is the Dynojet Dynometer :thumb: ....im goin to a tech school and we get to compare all kinds of performance parts and run them on the dyno with new parts and different combinations we start off stock...but hey im not telling you not to buy a magnaflow, do what you want :D we did a magnaflow exhaust and lost 5lbs of torque and 3hp and our instructor said he hasnt seen any gains in magnaflow on the dyno since hes been there for over 4 years

i cant prove it to you but hey its not a big deal to me cuz im just goin by what i saw it do on the dyno with different cars im not tryin to start anything but im not going against my own eyes and what i saw it lost on average of 3hp and 5 lb of torque

Im not tryin to dog you or anything man. At all. I was just wondering why you made that statement. You obviously have proof. But where these losses compared to stock exhauts?

yeah..it was from a stock exhaust to the magnaflow...but we added a K&N filter and gained 3hp and still lost torque but with the magnaflow exhaust, msd ignition, throttle body, cold air intake, uderdrive pulley kit we added 12hp and 8lbs of torque not too bad but when we added the intake it could have brought to life the magnaflow but oh do they sound nice! :thumb: i was going off of stock exhaust to magnaflow and thats where we saw a loss in power

Thats weird, I gained a ton or torque with mine. Maybe its different with mine being turbo if those cars were NA.

And BTW what muffler did u use? Model?

Wow I guess I stand corrected. Well my car felt like it gained torque. I had to get new tires after my exhaust install. :)

haha yeah they really like their superchargers... they have a j spec 4g63 on the way and another b16a jspec on the way becuase its about to go and i forgot a superchagerd grand prix, and a h22a honda accord. must have been the exhaust we were using but the instructor said he hasnt seen any gains with the magnaflow yet by itself

im sure the magnaflow wont make much difference untill it has balls behind it.

and was that a magna muffler or full exhaust? im probly getting the muffler and dont wanna be losing any hp hehe

Also, was it the Street Series or Race Series? Has anyone tried both...how much louder are the Race Series?

:laser:-Royce- :laser:

going to agree with Thermal. Have a 3" on mine, nice purrr to it, not to loud but definatly sounds throaty, very deep. :thumb:

I didnt want to start a new thread but I really need some suggestions on what magnaflow muffler looks/sounds the best. what is everyone using? I need a 3" one. im thinking everyone uses #14828 but I really need to know by 3pm today (thursday) est.!

and is double or single wall better? what do they do?
