Hey guys, I just went and picked up another ESI to swap my engine into and everything. This car *used to* run before people stole the radiator and ECU off it -.- and intake...and battery...anyway! This isnt a stock manifold? Atleast I don't think so? My question is, what are they, and are they going to be better than my stock manifold? and yes, I know this is one of the messiest engine bays ever... :shhh:

...and the picture didn't work....one second

i read this and want to ask you a question. what kind of can am i holding? its roughly the same size and shape of other cans. its has some color and a tab on top but i know for sure its not a beer can. what can is it and is it going to be better than other cans?

seriously. you post lacks any information to help determine what manifold you have or whether it will be better or worse than the stock piece.

pictures and part numbers are you best friends.

I clearly stated that the image didn't upload the first time and I said i would fix it...but go ahead and be an ass about it

Sounds like your other is aftermarket. That looks just like the stock manifold on the past 2 N/T's I've had.

Sorry, I don't know why my images have been saying they are uploaded but dont work:mad:

Here is my other Talon. It has a magna flow Cat-back, I don't recall him saying anything about changing these? I'm gonna go with these ones not being stock

First pic is a stock cast manifold that comes from the factory. Second is aftermarket. The name tag on the second one can just barely been seen on the third runner down by the fan shroud.

Just thought that the stock ones looked really weird for some reason? Thanks for clearing that up though, I'll go see what name brand they are so you guys can tell me if I should keep stock or not:thumb:

Okay, the name plate says OBX racing sports High quality exhause

There is no they or s on the end. It is either a header or a manifold, it is singular, not plural. Headers refers to a pair of headers for a v engine. You have a single header and a single manifold.

Depends on what Era you come from. If your family came from the beginnings of the motorcycle and aircraft industry than you called each pipe a "header pipe" header for short. Then when they started to go with multiple cylinders you called them headers whether your motorcycle had 2 or your radial aircraft engine had 16. It didn't mater if they were bolted on separate or in multiple banks, two or more pipes were called "headers".

So whatever you call them we all know what you mean. The language has just evolved over the years.

So the answer as most have said is, first photo = stock, second =aftermarket.

This!

Alright guys, I understand, I made a grammar error. Still haven't gotten answer to my question though....third times a charm. OBX or stock, are they a popular name

The obx will obviously flow better but there welds are prone to crack so eventually you will have to go back to stock or buy another.

Some people will argue to OBX are cheap and not as good as name brand headers. Others will argue that this header when purchased was like a third of the price for a Megan Racing header and will only run 1-2 HP lower. At least this is what I've come to find with my research when picking a header. This really may open a whole can of worms.

It is really up to you.

1.) They both will perform nearly the same, so there is not any performance gains to be made from the OBX manifold, exhaust tone will be slightly different.

2.) With the OBX manifold you will have increased heat in the engine bay over a stock manifold with heat shield, but you dont have the stock heat shield so engine bay temperate may be just as hot as with the OBX manifold.

3.) The OBX manifold will have a greater risk of cracking over the stock cast manifold. Meaning stock manifold will be more reliable in the long run.

I hope this will help you in your decision.

Stock manifold and headers have the same flow?

I never mentioned that, or any reference to flow. In theory, the OBX manifold should have increased flow, but without a flow bench test of both manifolds, stock 420A manifold vs. OBX 420A manifold we have no data to make such statements.

I stated that they both perform NEARLY the same, meaning that they both do the same job and the driver will not feel any performance gain made by the OBX manifold.
