Need some help. Have a 98 gsx 5 speed that has 135k on the body and 1500 on built 7bolt. Has a precision 5252 ball bearing turbo which idk how many miles on it. The trans shifts perfectly. When i bought the gsx in October of 2014 it had a stock bottom end with built head which had bc 272 cams. A week later the bottom end blew so i built the bottom end only since the head was fine. Has a tune on the black box, walbro 255 fuel pump, qr bov, turbo timer, front mount, srs exhaust, 1000cc rc injectors other stuff i might be forgetting.

Anyways i haven't had any problems with the gsx other then bad bov and fmic piping coming loose. Well today drove it to work and everything was fine. Got off at 6 and drove to my grandmas which only took 10 minutes and i was fine. Left to go home 10 minutes ago and i live 5 minutes away from my grandma and 2 minutes down the rode i hear a pup from my exhaust and my exhaust got louder and sounded like a lawn mower. I drove it home which was only 3 minutes away and drove fine and shifted perfectly still. Only thing was the change in the sound of the exhaust. No check engine light while driving. When i turned off the car at home and started it up again the check engine light is on. Dont have a obd2 scanner to see what code it is. Looked under the hood and it seems fine with no knocking. Afraid to drive now. Any ideas what it could be? The first youtube link is the video of the car now and the second youtube video is a video of the car few months ago so you guys can tell the difference in sound. Sorry this is long and thanks in advance

Sounds like the manifold to exhaust housing gasket blew out or the 4 bolts came loose. Those gaskets are notorious for blowing out. Also check the downpipe bolts and the exhaust flanges. The FB video doesn't work btw.

Dude idk I can't tell what's going on in that video. That could be a UFO landing on earth for all I know. Like mentioned above, with the engine cold, feel around for air escaping, There's only so many places exhaust leaks can occur.

Hows this

Don't want to assure u of anything. But deff sounds like an exhaust leak. It makes ur car sound horrible Ik I had that for a little while back. Sounds like it can be coming from the exhaust manifold itself for it to be that loud. Check all the bolts, gasket, and any air blowing from it. If that's the problem worst case scenario replace either manifold or gasket no biggy

sounds like you have a very bad misfire . try to see what the code is i bet its a cylinder misfire code.

Now here is an update for you guys. Satutsay i went to try to move into the garage and it wouldn't start. I parked it Thursday night and didnt drive it friday except for few minutes to O'Reilly's to get the code checked and the code was for misfire. In April i had my car tuned and they blocked any codes from showing up since i had emission parts taken off the car. A week later a the check engine light came on and took my car back and found something happened with my car tune so they fixed the tune and told i dont have a misfire. Now on saturday i didnt after spending couple hours trying to figure out what is wrong with a car that won't let it start off and changing spark plugs and wires and that not working I decided to take my ecu out of the car. I couldn't get one of the bolts to loosen up and had unplugged it so I decided to plug it back up and work on in the next morning since it was late. When I plugged it back in I decided to try once more to start it before I decided to head in for the night and it started up and no check engine light. The next morning so Sunday I decide to take it for a test drive and once the car warmed up it started acting up again. Don't know what it could be. Only acts up when warm. Today wanted to work on it around 7pm but now it wouldn't start up. Im free monday so ill try working on it then

Sorry above is long. Btw tried to see if i had spark in the ignition control module/distributor and the test was lighting up. Didnt look at my injectors yet or under the car as Saturday i didnt have time since i was stock trying to get it start up since it would turn over but not start

It sounds like you're ignoring the advice you asked for when you started the thread.. That being the case you should take it back to the shop that did all the work on the car and let them have your credit card to fix the problem

If the car is pulling fuel and timing to keep the car running with the exhaust leak on the manifold it's not going to start until the computer is reset. Fix the exhaust leak first, then report back
