Resolved What is this wire on my exhaust?

I was under my car looking around and I found this broken wire on the top portion of my exhaust, behind the engine and before the transfer case I believe? Looks like maybe a ground wire of some sort, but why? What is it, what is it for, and is it bad that it's broken?

i will try the relay 2morrow but wudnt it bypass the relay and ignition if i put straight 12v to the trigger wire on the starter? yu can see where sumone else has already tapped into the relay at sum point but i had the relays tested at napa and they said they was good..

Yes, ok. Did you try actually putting +12v on the starter trigger post itself (with any other wires on it remioved)? If the wire going to it has a problem just using the wire wouldn't work no matter which side of the relay you use. Or just string a new wire the the starter trigger post and test that.
Also better see what this "tapped into the relay" wire goes.

Holy thread revival, batman!

As an update, I have since put on an SRS turbo back exhaust and this wire no longer exists on my car.

That wire is not for the starter, radio, O2 sensor (O2 has it's own separate ground wires), or any other current carrying device (all devices have their own grounds to normally to frame). It is to ground out any static charge buildup on the exhaust pipe but is not essential to normal car operation.

Good to know I'm not missing anything critical

But, since our cars ride on rubber tires, that static has to go somewhere to get to ground...and the braided cabling does the trick.

Ever get a light zap when you exit your vehicle when you touch a ground when you're wearing rubber soled shoes, or similar?

Actually, It's been so long since I've driven the car that I can't even remember if it was shocking me or not! It may very well have been lightly zapping me as I exited. I'll have to keep all this in mind when I finish my timing belt/water pump job and drive it again.

Or, if not just run the car and forget it was ever there like most people do with no ill effects.

If I do have a static issue that annoys me too much, I may try to ground it again at some point. Thanks.

alright im given up on the 95 GS but i finally got a title for my 98 RE so ima pull the parts off of the 95 to fix it.. it runs but not verry good. hooked it up to the computer and it says running lean? so maybe a weak fuel pump? dirty filter? cloged fuel lines? or injectors? oh and it take quite a bit of cranking it for it to start. just got it a few months ago like this so idk the history.. im gona make a new post insted of jacking this one

well i figured out the lean code! i changed the coil pack with no difference then i hooked up a fuel pressure tester and it was only reading 14 so i changed out the pump from my 95 gs to my 98 rs and its now running 54-55 and runs like a champ. just a few more little things left to do and she will be on the road again. parting out the 95 gs so if anyone needs sum parts and are close to terre haute indiana let me kno. 812 251 9168

on the 95 or the 98? iv been driving the 98 but i 95 is good also. only has 146,000miles on it. auto trans is good. everything is good except sumthing electrical and the hood. iv already took the fuel pump and the middle of the exhaust outa it
