I am pulling my motor out of my TSI AWD and I am getting really close to getting it pulled out..to make some more room I removed my ABS hydralic and took out the battery tray and I notice some lines comming out of a can shape thing that has a line running to where the intake used to be and a couple of other smaller lines running around the engine..what is this for?..is this somthing that can be removed? because I have seen pics of engine bays without those lines that run up to the throttle body and they have them blocked off and i was just wondering if I can do the same thing, and what else I can remove that isnt needed..Thanks ~Dustin

Well shit. I just pulled this crap out when doing a motor mount today and capped that line from the firewall.

Yea don't cap that line unless you want to blow the seams of your gas tank. Go get a cheap pcv filter and put that on the end of the line to keep junk out and stuff it off out of the way.

Capping my line in my 99 never cause any excessive pressure in my tank.
before capping it i had a constant fuel smell under my hood. I didnt like the idea of fumes leaking out of the line near parts that went to 1600 deg.

That's exactly why I capped it. Now I'm not sure which way to go.
your going to get a bunch of opinions on what way to go, you pretty much need to do what you feel is right. One may say.. the vent needs to be open, its there for a reason. But with that logic - you shouldnt be messing with it in the first place.

Well today I got my answer. After eliminating all the emissions crap and sealing the fuel tank vent line, my car ran like crap at half to full throttle. The car would buck and choke as if all my cylinders were misfiring! So I went back home and unplugged it and routed a vac line to underneathe the car. Solved my problems and the car runs like a champ again! :thumb:
