What is this sensor?

My manifold has an open, threaded hole in the same place as this sensor in the picture. What is this for?

I thought they were supposed to be 2-3 feet from the head? or am I misreading that?

I know it isn't stock, it was added into my eIII manifold before I bought it. I have a bolt there now. This way I will know what is needed for this spot.

Ahh, well CRAP!! Had a guy willing to sell me a pyrometer and sensor for 20 bucks a few months ago. If only I could tell the future and see that I would buy a shell that would come with a eIII manifold drilled/tapped for it.
