My manifold has an open, threaded hole in the same place as this sensor in the picture. What is this for?

This, it does not come stock.
I thought they were supposed to be 2-3 feet from the head? or am I misreading that?
I know it isn't stock, it was added into my eIII manifold before I bought it. I have a bolt there now. This way I will know what is needed for this spot.
