Resolved What is this part??? in the picture.

Me and my friend went to look at a GSX for sale and I was wondering what this part was, I think my friend already knows but hes gone somewhere so i want to know what it is. cause its not on his 95 GST. (its in the attached picture, the thing thats circled with a yellow square.) if the pic doesnt show up then its a cylindrical object coming off the top left side of the valve cover.

Isn't that a cam angle sensor? That's what it is on my 1G.

That's not a 2G bay though. It is however, a cam angle sensor. The reason it's not on your buddies 95 is beacuse the 95-96 cars have the CAS underneath the intake cam gear.

alright, thanks very much for the help. The only thing though is that the GSX we looked at was a 95 and it had that, the picture that i have attached is from a gallant vr-4 but i figured it was the same thing. but the gsx we looked at had a new motor, so do you think that motor must have been for a 97+ or was it only the GS-T's that had the differently located sensor?

I think it came from a 1g. All the 1g engines ive seen have it.

That is a solid answer. It is definitely a Camshaft Angle Sensor.

All 1G's have the CAS on the end of the head like that as well as all 2G's 97 and up. It's just the 95-96 model year that is different. If the car has a 6 bolt in it or just a 1G head it will have the CAS where that one is.
