I found a 1996 Spyder GST for $4900. It is a 5-speed, 91,000 miles on it, white with black top, 17 inch rims. There is 80% tread left on the tires but the guy has a brand new never used set of tires for the car that is included in the price. He says the top doesn't leak, but it had a rip and was repaired, but he didn't like it, so he bought a brand new oem top that isn't installed and is included with the car. He says the interior is really nice, everything inside works, but you have to help the top up a little bit. He doesn't know if the timing belt has been replaced or not. It has a 3 inch cat back exhaust, 16G turbo, apexi intake and a greddy bov. He says it runs great and has no issues. He says he just wants to get rid of it because he doesn't drive it and its taking up space in his garage, which sounds good to me because he kept it garaged at least. he also said that the paint is good on it, no clear coat coming off, no body damage or dents. I'm going to check for crankwalk be looking at the clutch pedal when I turn left. I have been talking to the guy over the phone and I'm suppose to go drive for 4 hours to go and buy it if it checks out on Thursday. Does it sound good? Should I ask him or check for other things on it?

LOL thats what im saying. im sure its the battery i guess the guy said he'd get it running but we just said how it sits now for $100 and i know a guy at a junkyard with like 50 talons/eclipses so getting struts and shocks will be easy to get. we may be picking it up on friday. what are some good mods for a auto ESi anyway? just basics? intake, exhaust, etc?

None.

Buy the car, fix it up if it's fixable, and drive it as-is or sell it. If not, pull the engine/trans and scrap the rolling chassis. There are always guys looking for good engines even if it's a 420A.

It may not be worth the headache of saving what, $600-700? I know that a lot of us guyses like to do it ourselves, but here's what happened to me.

I bought a GST that barely ran for $1,900 (6 bolt swap, Evo III turbo, new transmission with receipt, intercooler, 17"s the works) The owner had $11K in receipts. Actually I got it running perfect on the auction lot, but didn't say anything. Sounded like a steal to me. Then I spent the next 3 months attempting to fix/diagnose/patch up, etc all the problems it had. I finally got it running two days ago (I've had the car for a while). I worked well over 20 hours on the stupid thing, and it's been in the shop for 2 weeks as well. Well, it wasn't worth three months and $900 in shop labor. I wish I had bought a running one for $1K or so more (screw the mods) and have been done with it.

So, the next time around I bought a Talon ESi for $800 (clean as could be, runs perfect). I decided NOT to buy the Talon for $300 that was blowing smoke. I am not regretting my choice one bit. Just my opinion.

you said your not to good with them. Something you could think of something is useing it as a DD or part it out and learn more about them so when you get a newer one/better shape you know about them and parting out that car could get you money for a better one

If you can get it running go for it an auto 420a will get 30+ mpg itll be slow but at least there reliable as hell.

ok guys i finally got the damn car LOL after a lot of crap just to get it. its a 1995 Eagle Talon ESi Auto. heres the pix

so here it is. what do you guys think for only paying $100? i know its kinda rough.. but i dont care much. itll be fun to fix it up and maybe sell. it needs a Quarter glass, both Door handles, it has 2 dents as you can see, needs a battery and a radiator (we think) and some new tires and a tune up. what you all think :)

Sweet! Even it doesn't become the track beast that you may want-it's cheap and it looks good. Get rid of the sticker though.

ya im getting rid of the sticker LOL the guy i bought it from thought that the intake mani was a turbo! ROFL i was trying soo hard not to laugh but i just let him think what he wants. but ya i figured it was a good or atleast decent deal. im figuring around maybe 100-150$$ to get it running and on the road.. hopefully

Time for a junkyard excursion. Try rocky's in Poynette, there was a good amount of 2gs there when I went there last.

ya Rockys is always where i go. i know him really well im friends with his nephew. ive given rocky alot of buisness. and last time i was there he still hada lot of talons. ill ###### go this weekend

i would expect to more than 200$ in it to get it runnin good. You should pull the engine out and give it a full over hual.
water pump,
belts,
hoses,
all gaskets,
battery,
radiator,
head gasket,
and leave room for the unknown. But for 100$ bucks thats still a hell of a deal. If worse comes to worst, you could just give it the body to me

haha ya. im not pulling the engine though. im not putting that much into it. it doesnt look good now and itll never be pretty :p but idc its just a DD i may fix it and sell it.. idk yet though.. but im just gunna get it running first and see where i wanna go after that

i did get it. got her today. gonna get all the damn squirrel nuts outta the damn vents tomorrow though =/ its just gunna be a DD anyway. ###### just a exhaust and intake. ill keep what rims are on it maybe paint em.. light tint.. maybe new paint. nice stereo and enjoy the looks and style of it. and maybe do a 5spd swap and turbo it later. idk yet for sure though

Just keep it simple. Fix what you got to, after you give her a good bath. Then sell the car and use the proceeds as a start on a TSi or a GSX. But as a DD she'll be good!

ya i dont want anything over the top. atleast not now. i got other tings that take priority in my life atm. so any big things i wanna do need to wait which sucks LOL but ohwell. now got three cars.

hey guys, just an update, we got the car started today. ran perfect. just needs a new radiator and battery. we are probably goin to the junkyards this weekend so i was wondering what car/cars have or use the same radiator?? i know that the Sebring/Avenger/Neon/Eclipse/Talon all share the 420a? (besides teh tubo model talons and eclipses) if im wrong please correct me. but what other car can i get a radiator from? what about door handles to? any help please?? thanx

no i got acces to one along with the door handles and other lil things. just need a radiator. and napa and weaver are expensive.. im good friends with the owner of Rockys Auto Salvage in Poynette Wis. but he has no radiators outa a eclipse/talon. will one outa the sebring/neon/avenger work?
