I found a 1996 Spyder GST for $4900. It is a 5-speed, 91,000 miles on it, white with black top, 17 inch rims. There is 80% tread left on the tires but the guy has a brand new never used set of tires for the car that is included in the price. He says the top doesn't leak, but it had a rip and was repaired, but he didn't like it, so he bought a brand new oem top that isn't installed and is included with the car. He says the interior is really nice, everything inside works, but you have to help the top up a little bit. He doesn't know if the timing belt has been replaced or not. It has a 3 inch cat back exhaust, 16G turbo, apexi intake and a greddy bov. He says it runs great and has no issues. He says he just wants to get rid of it because he doesn't drive it and its taking up space in his garage, which sounds good to me because he kept it garaged at least. he also said that the paint is good on it, no clear coat coming off, no body damage or dents. I'm going to check for crankwalk be looking at the clutch pedal when I turn left. I have been talking to the guy over the phone and I'm suppose to go drive for 4 hours to go and buy it if it checks out on Thursday. Does it sound good? Should I ask him or check for other things on it?

Do they have an asking price?
If you're really interested I would definitely take it on a test drive. Any car with a decent mod list like that could be done very wrong or very right. Driving it and meeting the owner would give you a much better understanding of if this car is beat to heck or not.

Tax return car! Sorry OP but I want that car really bad. May the best man win.

This is a hard to find sedan. Total classic!!!! They only made 2000 of this in a year for only 3 years. ....

It's a rust free car.

you think its a good daily driver?
:banghead: Bye nice car. I don't know which is worse, this or the guy who bought a pristine gem of a 1g AWD DSM and watched it burn to the ground an hour later.

Even my three year old said this needs no less than five bangheads. :banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead:

I finally found me a 4G63 car... Just need some insight.

Here is the text I got from him, he is a good friend of mine.

Ok cool I was hoping you did. Bought it off my friend last fall when I had a better job and lots of expendable cash but I don't have the money for it anymore.
It's a 1990 TSi Awd 5 speed. Has some sort engine trouble. Pretty sure it's a short or a bad sensor because sometimes it will fire up fine, other times it will run rich as hell and not idle right.
I've replaced the ecu with a rebuilt EPROM '90 one. Replaced the air intake with a 99gsx intake with proper wiring adapter.
Changed plugs and wires. New yellow top battery. Have a set of 560 evo injectors that come with it.

Also comes with a shit ton of spare parts from when I bought it. I think a starter, alternator, radiator, both head and tail lights, a white grill insert if that's your thing, and metal for the lower part of the grill.

Transmission shifts fine except first gear. It will hit or miss grind if you don't put the car in second then first, almost like reverse in a truck. Clutch holds fine but you can tell its a little weak from quick shifts.

Yeah stock 16g, seals are a little bad. Very minimal play but it does burn under boost.

Not sure about cams never pulled the head but it's got the gears. It sounds cammed at idle but I can't say for sure.

Interior is pretty stripped though. It's got like 100k miles

Pictures that he sent me...

It seems pretty solid. I am going Thursday to look at it. I have the money to buy it and income to fix it up right.

But what would the start up issue be?

Oh btw he's only asking 1,200 for it. Price for me that is.

Hello everyone.

I have been looking for a 2gb DSM for about 3 months now with little luck finding what I want.

I found a possibility though: a 1998 GSX.

Has a freshly built trany and engine, but apparently it has some fire damage. According to the seller, the car is in good shape. He had gotten it as a salvaged-tittle and had the engine and transmission rebuilt by "West Coast DSM" in the Portland Oregon area. (If anyone knows about this shop, it would be of great help.)

Fire apparently happened after going to a 255 fuel pump with no regulator and fuel leaked in the engine bay and ignited.

The car looks clean, but apparently is not running due to the engine wiring harness never getting repaired.

I could use your advice:
Pass on the car?
Take him up for asking price ($3500, which means I show up with $3000)
Offer lower due to the situation.

I can post up more information if need be. I Mostly need to know what it would take to get a wiring harness replaced and if that kind of a fire causes major defects in other areas.

Thanks guys, I appreciate any help I can get.

Not even close. Walk far away from that mess. The oversight of no AFPR makes me wonder what else the PO skimped out on, let alone the hack harness from being on fire. Keep looking, you'll find the right DSM.

I thought the same thing when I first saw the ad.

After talking to the guy selling the DSM, this GSX is his 11th DSM. He was rebuilding it from the salvage title. No direct knowledge of the original kid (assuming here due to the stupidity...) that caused the fire. Apparently selling the car due to a kid, or willing to trade for a sedan.

The car is not running due to him not hacking the harness. Thus the engine has 0 miles on the rebuild as we as the transmission.

I have no problem to keep looking, but just want to make it known that it does not have a hacked harness (to my knowledge) and currently has a knowledgeable owner (to his word).

#### no! Stay away from that thing. You can find a clean title GSX that runs for 3500.

Took me 9 months to find mine. And I basically had to convince the guy to sell it to me. You gotta look in a 3 hour radius of your location too. they r rare

Built motor/trans or not. If it doesn't run, I'll never offer more than $1k cash if the body is in good shape. Salvage title? I'll give you $500 for parts.

Trust us. Widen your search up to a couple hundred miles or so. Best part of buying a dsm a couple of hours away is the drive back home =).

_Waffles_, you can do a hell of a lot better than that, honestly a 1g isn't so bad and getting a nice one is well within your price range. Trying to find a semi reliable or just a good deal on a 2g in your area is going to be difficult. Like many others have suggested, try looking within a 3 hour radius of your home, that's usually how i keep finding killer deals.

Not to mention, just because its rebuilt, doesn't mean its rebuilt right. $3k is a lot of money to gamble on that.
