Ok, my car has sprung a leaK! I have NO idea what this thing is. The oil is coming out of there though. Anybody know what this is, or why it would be leaking?

MOD EDIT: Resize your picture or leave it as a link.

It's the copper tube thing with the spring on it and it is coming out of the spring. Thanks for the help!

Thats your oil return for your turbo. Just replace it and be sure to get a new gasket for where it goes into the oil pan.

PLEASE make sure when you replace the return line there are no clogs. Just blew up a new turbo because my return line was clogged :-( But yeah, thats your turbo oil return. super easy fix, just the 4 10mm bolts and 2 gaskets. You'll be leak free in no time!! :thumb:

Oh, and thats not a spring. Its like that so you can bend it a little without kinking the line. It doesnt move once installed.

Yea thats a no hassle no BS fix, just replaced one on my buddys car, abd like gsx bri said, thats a flex joint, however i do have one question, where was it leaking from, the gasket, or the line itself, its kind of blurry on my screen, im just trying to get things into perspective, good luck,

Holy Pixel-limit violation, Batman!! ROFL Next time resize to less than 700 pixels wide.

The other guys got it all right, though. Return line, get new gaskets, etc. The only thing I'll add is that when you take off the old line, make sure you get ALL the old gasket material scraped off the surface of the oil pan and the bottom of the turbo. During my 14b install, I accidentally left a small piece of gasket material on the oil pan because the gasket peeled off irregularly. When I put the new gasket on top, the old gasket left a gap where it slightly leaked. This required another trip to the dealership for a gasket, waiting for it to be shipped, draining the oil, uninstalling the drain pipe, etc. etc. Basically redoing half the install. :) So, check that when you replace the gaskets.

do not forget to clean the area very well so you can tell if you fixed the leak or not. a clean engine is a happy engine. those are my 2c.

Wow you guys are awsome. I forgot to even tell you where it was on the car. It is leaking out of the flex joint. I will also make sure to completley remove the gasket. Anyways, this wasn't that bad, I had just got home with 4 quarts of oil and a oil filter ready to change my oil, so atleast its not another 10-15 bux on top of the line. Thanks again for all the help!!

UPDATE- I just have absolutly NO luck with my mitsu dealer. This is the 3RD time they haven't been able to fix my car. They ordered me the wrong part, and what seems to be the wrong gaskets but look like they just may work. They are saying that they ordered me the right part, but the screw holes just don't line up. My question is would having an aftermarket turbo affect this?

thanks

My question is would having an aftermarket turbo affect this?

Yes. If you have a TDOx series turbo on your 2g car, you'll most likely need the oil drain line for a 1g car. The people putting 16g's and 14b's on their 2g's either buy a new 1g oil drain or file the bolt holes on the stock 2g line closer together to make it work.

Don't forget to fill out your vehicle profile.

If you're sure it's the flex section only, you can cut the section off and put a hose in between the two ends.
