Why is oil leaking?

I have a 1991 eclipse gsx. I just recently put this new valve cover on, and bought a new oil cap. But after driving just a couple of miles with the oil cap on correctly, oil some how comes through and gets all over the new valve cover. The cap is just a $8 cap from o'reillys and seemed to work okay on the last valve cover. However, the day before i changed the valve cover i had a turbo coolant pipe bust and spray antifreeze all over. A mechanic told me my car did get to hot, so could i have messed up the cap. Also, the top of the opening is machined, so could it have been machined to much. Does anybody know if cheap o'reillys caps are any good anyway. If you have any tips for me that would be great.

Thanks

They're just known for letting out a little oil pretty much no matter what. Most people, when they do a custom valve cover, they actually have it threaded so that they can use a screw on oil cap so it doesn't cause this anymore. Is it leaking a crap ton of oil or is it just enough to show a glaze around the area? Machining too much may have effected this surely.

How long does it take to accumulate how much? We'll say, in terms of coin size for ease (Quarter size amount?)

I would suggest looking for any cracks if you haven't already. Otherwise, your best bet may be to just buy another valve cover. You can find a couple on here in the classifieds or on ebay. Ebay always has a bunch of them. Usually relatively cheap.

Sorry for not relpying. Got bored and drove to the local mitsubishi dealer. Bought a new cap, stuck her on, no more leaking. The weight and gasket size on the dealer cap was much better than the $8 junk from o'reillys. If anyone is having the same problem, try the dealer cap. Thanks guys for your help.
