what is porting a turbo?

You are actually serious....

Perhaps trying Google or the "Search" option would be a good first step, slugger. :|

14B is a stock 1G turbo. Porting it isnt going to help any on that small of a turbo. If you want a good one go get an EVO III 16G or an 18G there about the same price.

Porting, when done properly, does help with boost creep, however. Since the TDO5 turbos are notorious for creep, it generally helps to port the 14b. Also, if the manifold/turbo ring gasket isn't used, the step in the turbine housing causes a lot of turbulence and loss of flow. Porting that out can help.

OP: This is a picture of an unported TD05 turbine housing inlet, as found on VFAQ:

Here is the same turbo ported:

It is possible to take off too much material. The TDO5 turbine housings are prone to cracks, and making the metal thinner isn't going to help matters. If the turbine housing has large enough cracks in it already, I would pass on it. If the original owner merely ported for boost creep reduction, I would think it would be okay.

rofl, show me a e316g for $80 or a 18g and ill buy it

but yea portiing helps alot with spool up and flow i think 80 is a ok price

if you have a 2g get it, you will need a install kit though

I think fatherbubble meant that instead of getting a ported 14b, the OP should just spend the extra money and get an e316g, or possibly an 18g, because those two are about the same price.

You'll probably spend more on an install kit, although after you do you wouldn't need to change the setup for a larger turbo.

True for the 2g not for the 1g unless you have an auto car.

You need to check for shaft play and wheel damage before you buy it. Post a pic of the porting its probably half assed.

Sorry didn't notice 91 Talon TSi AWD. No install kit ness. I would definitely go bigger then.
