What is best exhaust for my 1g?

Ok, so I have done some looking around at different exhaust for my 1991 eclipse gst. And I'm stumped on witch too get there all closely priced the same. So basically my question is, What is the best exhaust to get for my bone stock 1991 eclipse gst?

P.s., I don't plan on doing majior modifications to the engine anytime soon just basically stock I mite get a dif. Intake later on. But that's really it.

Well what exhaust systems are you looking at?

One thing I would recommend is going with a 3 inch system over a 2.5 inch exhaust system. I don't know if that narrows the search for you, but one thing I've learned over the years is to keep room for growth with your modifications if there are no other downfalls.

Unfortunately it seems like there isn't a whole lot of choice available for 1G FWDs, compared to what is available for 1G AWDs and all 2Gs. A lot of people seem to be happy with the Thermal R&D catback, which is available for 1G FWDs, and it looks like a really nice piece. It is a bit expensive however, compared to other options that the AWDs have. It would be nice to have something similar to the Apexi N1 catback which is significantly cheaper it seems

Exactly what i was going to say @stefanOst , I have looked through the parts catalog many a many times, and i mean A LOT, but I cant seam to find a full turbo back exhaust that will work for my car? So do I need to get an aftermarket down pipe and a cat-back system that goes together or what? I live in OK so emissions aren't a problem if that helps. Oh and thanks @gofer for the thread links and all, you do a good job on the forums, seems like you have posted in every one of my threads,

just go custom! you can find a mom and pop shop that will do the work for like 100 bucks. buy the mufflers and resonators that you want and have them do the bending. im getting my work done for like 100 and spending 60-120 on parts (havnt decided what i want yet). thats cheaper than a bolt on turboback and you will get the exact results that you want.

I bought an ebay downpipe and cat back. It came with two resonators and I changed out the stock muffler for an Magnaflow. Sounds good.

I doubt that cheap for mandrel bends. With crush bent pipes the ID in the bends is smaller then the 3'' that you want. And with exhausts it only flows as well as the smallest area. So a full 3" with a 2.5" bend will flow like a 2.5".

But on a super tight budget i guess that "can" work. Honestly though if $300 for an entire bolt on exhaust is too much then maybe you get your priorities straight. Or wait to mods cars at a better time in your life.

crush bends dont make that big of a difference, maybe from 3" to 2.75" still way better than 2.25 crush bend flowing like a 2 inch. plus getting rid of the restrictive muffler and cat. a crush bend system with straight through mufflers should be good for 300+ horsepower. also with custom exhaust you can get exactly what you want. i personally dislike the can style mufflers so i can get a straight through dual outlet muffler instead. 300 for a whole system isnt bad, but there isnt much to choose from in that range other than the can style ones on ebay. i dont mind doing a little extra work to save a few bucks and get exactly what i want.

You dont need it no, these cars arent raspy like honduhs. But if its too loud for your liking you can add one or a couple depending on the sound your going for.

no you dont need them. they just help supress sound better. if you dont mind having a loud car then they are a waste of money. i personally just like to keep it quiet to keep the fuzz off my ass. i had a straight pipe camaro last year and police would follow me like flies on a shit wagon.

without a resonator it will be quite loud. idk what the laws are in your state but some states are strict on exhaust loudness. i think your best bet is to just buy one from ebay if you're not worried about upgrading later. but just remember that buying off of ebay you usually get what you pay for

I know on n/a 4cyl resonators really help kill that rasp you hear with alot of hondas. Had a n/a ecotech build that needed 2 large resonators on top of the muffler to not sound like ass. Well imo anyway.

i live in a small town in Oklahoma. small enough to know just about all the cops personally, i used to have a 98' ford escort zx2, with a 4-2-1 header and a LOUD twin tip exhaust. i was among the loudest in town 4-banger wise. i want to be the loudest again, now that i am the fastest. . So all i need to do is find a shop tell them i want a 3" full exhaust and take my own muffler and they will build one up for me?
Sorry I usually do all my modifications myself so I am not familiar with shops and such.

true, i am keeping it at 2.5 crush bent and using a glasspack as a resonator, then out to an ebay muffler, i may Y it at the end and have 2 ebay mufflers and go for the corvette look. i am relying on the glasspack to muffle the most sound though. i may even put in another glasspack if its too loud. like i said, just my 2 cents. you could do the ebay system and then add/ take from it as you please.

if you know someone capable of bending and welding you can get the work done even cheaper, just buy them a case of beer and help them do it. courtesy really goes a long way in small shops, trust me.

haha i have never been pulled over either but they followed me all the way to where i was going before and followed me into the store and made comments about it like "is that legal boy?" and " thats pretty loud, better be careful how you drive it."

some shops will do it, depending on your area you may be hard pressed to find a shop that will make you an exhaust without a cat. you can probably still find one though. and yes thats all you need to do. be their buddy and they will treat you better. just call around for prices. dont go to midas or something, try to find the small shops and back yard mechanics.

edit: i would stick with straight through mufflers as well, dont get flowmasters or something. keep with the fart can style or the dual tip straight through ones on ebay

its technically illegal to not have one, but where i am they are not strict as long as you arent obnoxiosly loud. the people at midas wouldnt do it for me so i have to go to a small shop in the sticks. just call around to your local shops and im sure you will find someone to do it for you. dont sey "hey will you hack off my cat?" ask how much they would charge to do piping from your exhaust manifold all the way back to a muffler that you bring in, also be polite and tell them that you understand that it is going to be loud and you may get in trouble, make sure you let them know that if you get pulled over you wont tell the police that they did it for you and blame them.
