"Bench Racing" - An activity indulged in, mainly by guys, of telling, retelling and embellishing stories that have to do with race cars or high performance street cars.

Yes, but it is also people talking about how much horsepower or what kind of times a car will run given a particular set up. Basically, any talk of horsepower or ETs that is not backed with data in the form of a time slip or dyno graph.

Asking questions about hypothetical races or times.

"With 'X' mods, will I be able to beat 'Y' car?"

"With 'X' mods, will I run 12s?"

Also has to do with "How slow will my car run with the following list of 4 mods?" or "Could I beat a minivan?". Don't ask these questions because there is no answer.

although this should have been posted in the hangout

Ideally, yes.

Hopefully though, the people that hang out here will see this and post less threads about bench racing in this forum.

I think the only time bench racing could be cool would be if you took an actual bench (park or early 70s GM front seat), attached a set of wheels to it, a steering wheel, then painted flames or racing stripes on it, and got some buddies to do the same thing. Then you and your buddies could get all liquored up on a Saturday afternoon, find a big hill in a park somewhere, and race your benches all day long. That would be fun.

If someone decides to upload a video of that, I wouldn't lock it ROFL

Just an FYI: This is how L2RTSiAWD describes it, in a sticky at the top of the Track Forum page.

Bench Racing is:
Bench racing is defined as posting hypothetical questions to try and see how fast or how powerful your car is or will be. If you want to know what time to expect at the track, or your car can beat another specified car, or how much power it will have with a particular modification (or mod list), then go to the track or the dyno and find out for sure. Do not ask for people to guess in our forums.

Kill Story is:
Any post describing a street race or potential street race and whether you won or lost.

Want to post a kill story from the track, fine.

This is how Ludachris defined it, before he went through and revised a few sections of the Rules a couple of months ago:

No "bench racing". Bench racing is defined as posting hypothetical questions to try and see how fast or how powerful your car is, or will be. If you want to know what time to expect at the track, whether or not your car can beat another specified car, or how much power it will have with a particular modification (or mod list), then go to the track or the dyno and find out for sure. Do not ask for people to guess in our forums. It's pointless and it wastes space. Serious enthusiasts go out and do it, they don't talk about doing it. If you're not serious about performance, find another online community to be a part of.

This is the yardstick used on this forum to define it.
