What is a sinkrow

Hey guys my friend has a BMW n a mechanic is saying he needs a sinkrow I believe for the gears or something like that what is this sinkrow, what does it do, and is it urgent to fix? Thank you

If your friend has a bad synchro he most likely is having troubles getting from one gear to another. For example alot of dsm guys have trouble with their one-two synchros which are what make it possible to go from 1st to 2nd gear without grinding. So it depends on how bad it is to get into gear as to how urgent the fix is. If it only happens once in a while because of lazy driving/shifting habits he can probably go for a while if he's careful. If it doesn't want to shift anytime without grinding then that's a no brainer. It will have to be fixed.
