What headgasket should i use?

I searched and found one topic that was exacly what i am gonna ask but he never got an answer.

My block is bored 40 over with evo 9 pistons, shotpeened 6 bolt rods and i was wondering what size headgasket i need to use. The block deck has been MLS cut but my head hasnt. I wanna get head work done but i dont think i am going to do it before i put it back together.

So what headgasket do you recomend i use. Ill probablybe running about 22 psi until i can get head work and cams. Any information will help.

A composite one with some arp's should hold up to 500hp or so.

Ooo I see my bad I had misread that. Hmm you know I'm actually not sure. I'm going to look into it tho and find out I'm quite interested. Just a personal opinion I would opt for .20 over if I were you. .40 is a lot to bore out on these blocks.

Stock is 85.5 I believe. Really you still have room to spare?? That's crazy . Are you sure it's stock specs??

It is already bored 40 over. I threw a rod and it was the cheapest block i found somewhat better than stock with 0 miles.

I read that your supposed to use and 87, but an 86 works. I think 85.5 is stock cause that's what i was gonna buy from another member till i realized it wouldn't work.

Stock is fine. My block is .40 over and I used a OEM stock replacment. There was plenty of room to spare also. You would be fine.

My block is bored .040 over as well and I'm using a felpro permatorque mls, comes in 87mm bore so you would set with room to spare. Awesome gasket good for 500+ HP with some arps.

The Fel-pro replacement head gasket will fit the .40 over, stock bore is 85. 85.5=.20 over, 85.75=.30 over, and 86=.40 over. I used a replacement on my .30 over with lots of room to spare and boost my holset on 25psi. Its all in how you torque the head down. Make sure you go 30ft/lbs, 70ft/lbs, then i always let it sit for 20 mins or so then torque it to 100ft/lbs. I have only ever had 1 head gasket blow and thats because i over heated the car....

Only if both mating surfaces have the correct finish. Just FYI permatorque is both Fel-Pros composite and MLS gasket.

i have a oem mtls,its hold 35 psi no problem.ive seen guys oring the head and use the 12 dollar stock one from autozone and run 40psi.so you call

I ran almost 35 psi with an o-ring block deck, ARP and stock composite gasket it held awesome with no issue. I even hit the decks lightly with a dye grinder before install.
