what head gasket

Im sure this has been coverd but maybe not to my specific budget. I would like a mls head gasket. I got about $100 to spend. i already ordered arp head studs. im finding alot of graphite head gaskets. I saw Felpro PermaTorque 4G63 Headgasket but it is double what i have to spend. I was running 16psi and i plan to keep it under 30psi if that matters....i would like to atleast upgrade from stock while im in there. TY all.

I would keep the arps and grab a oem one or a felpro they will be able to hold up to your goal, grab one from any auto store the felpro for your car, and spend the extra money somewhere else.

Oem and I've witnessed locals using the cometic without a resurface on the block and head because of some coating that is used on them supposedly? But don't quote me on that.

I believe if you use some copper spray you can get by without resurfacing, but only if your block and head are pretty straight to begin with. I have done it with a felpro mls and didn't have any problems. Someone will correct me if I am wrong.

I wouldn't use copper spray on a composite head gasket though.

But anyways, you can get a cometic MLS head gasket for around $75 I think. I got one from MAP for my last build at that price.

Copper spray would coat the gasket, and wouldn't allow the the facing to form as good of a seal as originally intended. I wouldn't ever use copper coating on a head gasket.

If you haven't used Rockauto, I'd recommend checking them out. I usually get most of my stuff from them when doing a rebuild.

I've used both. The MLS hold boost better but are harder to seal coolant generally then composite. I do copper gasket both sides of MLS gasket. Both hold boost very well. If you already have the head off and have the ability to get to a local engine machine shop I would get the head checked with a straight edge. My local shop doesn't even charge me to do it anymore cause Ive been there so many times but its usually no more then 10 or 20 bucks. Just a tip to help you out. You don't have to do it but I like knowing I don't have any warp. If you have a Machinist straight edge you can do it yourself with a pair of feelers gauges.
