I think there's a big misconception about getting banned from DSMtalk. There is a rule that states "no personal attacks." You see, there's nothing wrong with disagreeing with what someone says or posts. Mod or not. You have to be mature in your response. MOST people get banned from DSMtalk for violating this simple rule. You start insulting somebody and you are gone. You don't get banned for disagreeing with what a mod says. However, you will get in trouble when you challenge him enforcing the rules of the board. You will not win.

It's not difficult to make a concise and well thought out argument about something. Don't start bickering with Taboo because you WILL NOT win (I have seen him argue with very many smart people and he always comes out on top) and he will pin you into a corner where you will break one of those rules and you will be banned. Easy! :thumb: There's nothing wrong with a good debate. There are more ways to do the same thing in some instances but there's always a wrong way to do something.

Another thing about DSMtalk, NEVER NEVER EVER, post about goofy body kits and about venting your BOV to the air on a stock MAS. Everyone will be on YOU like flies on shit - and YES! you will be called a ricer. :D :D :thumb:

All in all, we both have the same interests so pick whatever the fvck you like, aiight? OMG ;)

I think on talk it's harder to get with the "in" crowd and become a regular everyone recognizes even though there aren't as many people on at the same time.

I hear that.

I post more there than here but I try not to kiss anyone's ass to get cool and on first name basis. The are clicks everywhere. I view myself as an independent click. I don't want to be on a first name basis because I dought I will ever go to a meet or even know another dsmer. I strictly use forums keep me entertained while I drink coffee in the morning and beer at night. I've been trying to stay off forums(before talk died) because it is addictive and I can get alot more done if I'm not sitting in front of a computer. Not every topic here is my cup of tea but there always seems to be something entertaining if I dig past the other stuff.

I hope dsmtalk comes back soon, it was a great resource. Each dsm board is a little different and brings something different to the table. Tuners is more open and nicer to newbies. Talk is not quite as newbie friendly but I find a little more technical info there.

I've never used DSMTalk.

I've used the NABR archives quite a few times for tech info, they have GOOD information over there but they don't tolerate ANY bullshit. Which is kind of nice (unless you're a DSM newbie.)

yea, I called a moderator on this because I posted a GOOD question, and he comes up and rips on me, flames me im talking like on the Extreme end of wrong and right that ive seen in forums. I was posting tech articles and doing all these things. I was not appreciated by them obviously.

This is exactly what I dont like. If they dont like you then they find a way to get you banned. It seesm more like a high school party than a forum board. If you are not in with the cool crowd then the big tuff guys give you shit until you leave or until they find a way to make you leave.

I just post in the newbie section on both boards......they seem to tolerate the questions more. I find both are good for searching and finding info on numerous products i may be interested in. I receive quicker replies to my questions on this board tho.....

I hope everyone realizes that DSMtalk is another resource that can be used to find good info about DSMs. Whether you like our site more than theirs or vice versa, let's keep the complaints about them to yourselves. They run their site the way they want and we run ours the way we want.

I really like Tuners AND Talk. NABR is to Nazi-ish. I was banned there for posting on here about their ways. I'm sorry whats the point of having an internet forum if you can't have a discussion about anything that conflicts with the moderaters view. Not rule breaking.... I'm talking like a difference of opinion on tuning issues.

I think I have been banned 3 times by them OMG

One time a guy was yelling at me for "not searching", so I emailed him off list, telling him to F-off and burn in H#ll. The guy posted my personal email [to him] on the site and started whining ... "this guuuuy waaaass soooo meeeaaann tooo meeee  !!!" ....then they banned me...even though I followed the rules of sending personal emails, and "keeping it offlist." ... I don't go there anymore.

I can say I HAVE beat him in an argument and he would not apoligize. When that site is back up I will find the post. Basically I was talking about mass and volume. He decided he wanted to "put me in my place" so he quoted me, and was just absolutely tearing me apart, at the end he said, "if you don't know what you are talking about, its best just to stay quiet rather than making a fool of yourself, just a suggestion."

And here is the funny part - he quoted me WRONG. He took out some key words to make it sound like I had no idea what I was talking about, and I replied and said "DUDE! YOU DIDN'T EVEN QUOTE ME RIGHT!" all he said was "well, you are STILL wrong" and I stayed quiet after that and let him post more to "prove himself", and I finally said "apologize for tearing me apart" and he replied "I'm not going to apologize, if you want to start an argument with me, then argue with me about things I said, not things I've never said" Right.....I WIN!

You have to realize that Taboo gets very many attacks (even personally at times) so he's always in "battle' mood. Just don't f*ck with him. He's actually a very cool guy despite what many people assume.

It's not difficult to stay on Talk or most other forums.
1. Follow ALL the rules. Sh!t people don't even read them, post a "for sale" ad there, get banned and wonder WTF happened.
2. Be nice. Don't resort to name calling unless the board has a "flame forum" where you can curse anyone out if you feel like it in there. Happens alot here. Attack the content of the post - not the poster.
3. The funny thing is that most people ran away from Talk to Tuners because of the (many rules) there and funny enough, Tuners actually NOW has stricter rulers than Talk . ;) It's always the trouble makers who like to whine. For instance on this site, a simple sig rule was stated and every week when I browsed through the "inside stuff forum" all I saw was a bunch of people whining why their sigs were removed. What happened next? The sig rules became even stricter. If people followed rules without challenging how they were enforced you would never have any problems. :thumb:

Both sites have good archives. Sometimes when I search for something on Talk and not find it, I search here and find it. Vice versa as well.

Taboo is a smart guy, and posts to help everyone. I see it all the time where someone will post a goal of just trying to prove him wrong. People try to agonize him into arguments. Just leave the man alone if you dont want to deal with him :p . I personally get along fine with him. He's helped me and backed me up on several occations.

I think tuners has a better vendor setup going. I come here usually to find whats out new, or sales.

Both places has their mod nazi's, but thats their role here. Close the crap hole before anything starts leaking out ;) ..

Yeah, I thought this place was pretty easy going until I came back here, there's almost 3x as many rules as I remember from a year or so ago.

Taboo has gave it to me plenty of times. (on the forums that is) But in reality I did break the rules so no hard feelings and within a week he is back Helping me again. He has responded promptly and Precise when I was in need. So it kinda reminds me of my older brother I just get over it. I think thats where the alpha male clash happens when someone doesnt want to admit that they are wrong but hey life goes on. Either way this has gotten way OT. Simply both sites are priceless dsm info vaults. I couldnt imagine not having any site to resort to. I personally like to research and have a plan based on Peoples knowledge and opinions since sometimes I dont know everything. Anyway is the site ever coming back? It feels like an eternity!

i'd love to be on here more often but everytime i post a question, it takes FOREVER to get replies it seems. almost makes me feel as though there's more newbs here that don't know the answers i guess. so i usually post on dsmtalk more often.

but i have to agree that i hate the power trip that some of the mods over there wanna have. and hate sometimes when i ask a question and i've searched and searched, someone waste my time with "search". yeah, that's always so helpful. as if i didn't know i could do that or something. but there's things over here that i like. and the only reason why i'm not here more often is JUST because it seems to take longer to get replies. that's just me. other than that though, i like it here better. although i do wish we had more catagories of forums to choose from like they do on talk. oh well, can't please everyone i guess.

IDK about that, "no personal attacks" is bullsh@t plain and simple... i posted pictures of my car, under progress pictures. i received flames from moderators. next, i posted a writeup on lamborghini door installation (since there were 4 topics on it in a week or two. i received flames from mods. and lastly, one or both of the threads (i can't remember) degenerated into a personal attack from one of the moderators, which i called him out on, since he was violating forum rules, and i was promptly banned.

I dislike DSMtalk becuase there is no freedom of discussion, simply put. you either talk about what the moderators would like to talk about, and agree with, or you don't talk at all. spyders, and the poor NA's especially are all talked down upon by most of the moderators.

any visual modifications are treated like death... you can't speak about them, and if you do, its unpleasant and you really wish you didn't bring it up. and if you post pictures about it... you are in for 10 pages of people with stock exteriors telling you how you shouldn't have modified this, or you shouldn't have modified that, becuase its not "original" or its too "rice." basically you can't have anything done to the exterior other than an intercooler, bodykits are the devil, custom paint is a waste, etc.

yeah, i got into it with one of the mods over there. cause when i searched i couldn't find the answer to my question. so he told me to search. when i said that it'd be helpful to get some useful info since i had already searched, that's when the arguing began. i'm usually a pretty easy guy to get along with but i'm not gonna kiss anyone's butts. that's just me though. he deleted my thread, so i just posted another right up after that. which got deleted also. surprised i didn't get banned actually. dunno if it's cause of the other mods saw that i had a legitimate question and statements to the mod or what. oh well, i haven't had any problems with anyone here AT ALL though. hope it stays that way.

but sometimes i'm in a hurry and need answers in a hurry (like one of my threads right now....cough, tial wastegate thread. cough) and i have to wait and hope someone post within a reasonable amount of time. the one thing i don't usually have to worry about at talk. so that's one reason why i'd like to see it come back up. not to mention that i like to have as MANY resources as i can find when i need it.

heck, look and see how hard it is to get as much info for other cars (RX-7's, etc.) as you can with dsm's. i have soooooooo many vendors to choose from, a lotta forum's etc. clubs all over the place. and it's one thing that'll keep me stickin with dsm's for sure!!! :thumb:
