What engine is in a 96 eclipse rs

i am looking to start putting performance parts into the engine. does the engine type matter? and what should i put on first?

you have a 420A engine.i would suggest intake and exhaust first.

It's a (420A) 2.0 N/A Chrysler engine. Basically a Neon engine.

Hey I live in Delafield, and I go to KM. If you ever need help let me know. As far as your engine ^^ yes you have a 420A. I would do all maintenance before I put any mods on it. Check the FAQs for the required maintenance. Then I'd change your plugs and wires. And then you can consider what your going to do to mod it.

I already have a 3in straight back exhaust, no cat, and a 3in tip. i put steel headers on it. What do you recommend...cold air intake or short ram?

You'll find all kinds of arguments about that on here... I'd say your safe with a CAI so long as you watch out for puddles, and if your really scared take it off in the winter. I'll pm you my number if you ever want help.

keep in mind thats for the mitsu engines so some of the parts may be different (plugs and wires for example) but I'd do everything on there you can especially the belts and most especially the timing belt cause you'll cry if that snaps. Unless of course it was recently done. Then depending on your intended mods you can decide where you want to go with the plugs. Once the maintenance is done have at it.

Well if i just buy like, universal plugs, thatll be fine right?

I'm not quite sure what you mean by "universal" there's a specific plug that fits our cars, and I wouldnt get any fancy quad tip things. Just get NGK BKR6ES its 9 bucks for a pack...
