Ok peeps . Heres the deal.. Have been a Mustang Freak for years now but have ALWAYS LOVED The Eclipses . So I bought one . Just bought a 1996 Eclipse GSX for 2900 Bucks . The only thing this car has is a Very Nice sounding exhaust.

So here is what I want to know. I am not a tuner but I have a mechanical background. I dont know your acronyms so please help me here.

i want to maintain reliability but increase the horsepower of my car.

So basically what I am asking is where do I start.

From my working knowledge I would start at the exhaust system, air and fuel delivery . It currently does have an intake system . Its not a cold air system.

So any ideas BRANDS and WHERE THE BEST PLACES ARE TO GET THESE PARTS WOULD GREATLY BE APPRECIATED

Thanks fellas . Help a muffugga out here Im a SUPER n00b

I would say a manual boost controller I want to say stock is 12psi and you can run stock turbo up to 16 any one correct me if I'm wrong.

stock is closer to about 14lb on 2gs. if you remove to little tab in stock boost controller you will get up to 16lb. it is in the free mod category

Maintanance first;) Then turn the MBC up to 15 safely. You might want to look for a 1g BOV or one of your liking.

Welcome! As outkastracing said, check out the time-proven upgrade path for our 2g cars. It is a good starting point. Just don't get ahead of yourself with the upgrades; all things in good time. One of the very first things to do is get a proper Boost Gauge. Everything you need to know is on this site, so remember the Search function is your friend. Good luck to you.

well start here this will help you need to research figure out what you want in the car both hp and reliability is this car a daily driver??

Tech Guide: 2G 4G63t Upgrades - DSMtuners

This is fine and dandi and I really appreciate you pointing me somewhere i Have already looked but I dont currently have a turbo in my car so TURBO UPGRADES are not what I need. I need to know where to start so I am not throwing money down the drain. Hondas and eclipses are two different animals as are Ford Mustangs and imports. And to be totally honest the thread you pointed me to with you assuming I knew nothing would not help me if I really KNEW NOTHING ABOUT CARS. Its not that informative there is more to it than a list of upgrades . So if you are responsible for that tutorial then maybe someone ought to make one for people who have no freaking clue. Everyone here reading this thread had a point where they had no idea or clue what to do. Except spending money making mistakes.

i think most people do 15psi to stay on the safe side, and for parts i have ordered from extremepsi.com, and slowboyracing.com and they were both good companies, im sure there are more out there i just havent ordered many parts, also if you search the classifieds you can find alot of good deals.

ANY QUESTIONS

Its pretty easy, no turbo and your a GS, have a turbo but not all wheel drive then your GS-T, and if you have both then your a GSX. MBC is a manual boost controller.

You beat me but forgot about RS, oops.

you either have a 96 gs or rs if you dont have a turbo...if you have rear disc brakes you have a gs, if you have rear drum brakes you have an rs...
Ha Ha just figured that out its an RS...So NOW WHAT

By the way ..I am getting REALLY FAST REPLIES ..YOU GUYS Rock..Cause My Hand is On the FIRE BUTTON to get this car rolling.. The body Kit and Paint are already being shipped and the sound system is in my garage..just waiting on the catalyst to rip out the back seats and gel coat the amp racks and design the look of it ..

So Since I told you i dont know your acronyms you are assuming that these two are different What is MBC and honestly why do I need a Blow Off Valve on a Non Turbo Car

Well since you are a mustang guy it's gonna be pretty easy for you to understand this. The non turbo eclipses aren't very fast and hard to make power without a turbo. But, are you sure it's non turbo?

You said it was a 1995 eclipse gsx...lets tell you able the models quickly

RS - FWD, non turbo, 420a DOHC 2.0L motor
GS - FWD, non turbo, 420a DOHC 2.0L motor
GST- FWD, Turbo, 4g63T DOHC 2.0L motor
GSX - AWD, Turbo, 4g63T DOHC 2.0L motor
GS Spyder - non turbo, 2.4L motor (forget engine code)

As soon as you figure out which model you are we really can't help you cause were confused what path to put you!

MBC - Manuel Boost Controller.

ouch, i am sorry to say but if you paid 2900 for a rs, with out seeing the car and you thinking it was a gsx you got ripped. not trying to be ignorant just saying. but anyway good luck with the car. good to see another ford guy coming on over.

Maintnence first. What are your horsepower goals? If you want to make around 220whp and up, you should start putting togethor a turbo setup, or building your motor. Search and you will find everything you would ever want to know.
