i cant seem to figure this out....my center diff went out on my last tranny so i replaced it with a used one....when i got it in, with a new slave cylinder, it wouldnt go into first or reverse....took the slave off and manually bled it, put it back on and it went into reverse but still not first...bought a longer slave cylinder rod and it still wont go into first....tried adjusting the linkage and it still wont go into first!...i dont know what else to do....i put pennzoil synchroshift in it (bought the wrong stuff) but i cant see different fluid making that much of a difference.....any suggestions?

Can you get it to go in the other gears? It sounds like it might not be the clutch. Check the shift cables for proper adjustment. It's also possible first gear is shot on this tranny.

It takes a while for good tranny oil to take effect. The old fluid might still be coating the gears and syncros, hindering the shift into first. Drive it for a hundred miles or so and see if it improves.

Here's a trick that can help you get the car into first, it also works for a stubborn reverse. Put some gentle pressure on the shift lever as if you are going to put it in first, at the same time begin to let the clutch out very slowly until the tranny just starts to turn. If you work the clutch just right it should go into gear. If you're too quick it might grind. Good luck
