What does this ground do? it is attached to the intake and the wire runs down into the ignition harness. I did an electric check and current does not pass through it, it is dead end to end. can I just run a normal wire without this piece or is the way it is required with the little barrel section on the end?

Yes you are correct i did a deep dive on it and eventually found out what it is. Thank you for replying. This is my first encounter with this particular part and was dumb founded on what it's function was. If mine is busted then is there somewhere i can get a good one?

Probably any auto store. The original capacitor is 0.20 uF, 25volt minimum (I would get 50v to handle spikes however) but any capacitance value around that will work. Just get one where the can (the negative side) can be bolted onto the manifold and make your own wire connector. The other end should connect to coil positive and should have had +12v on it with key on. So if yours didn't there must be an open connection. The capacitor reduces ignition noise in the radio and sharpens the coil primary falling pulse.

It is, im tracking down a few little issues that i want fixed and i wanted to eliminate that as a possibility, i didn't know if that wire being dead could cause adverse issues with the spark in the ignition system.

I have worked on alot of cars and these engines have some really strange hookups and sensor functions I'm not used to. I still have alot to learn about on this platform.
