So i took my 97 gsx to perfect performance and they want $2800 for a performance rebuild including labor. do u you think thats a good price? it includes taking my precision industries torque converter out and rebuilding it,performance soft part rebuild kit,new syn trans fluid, gasket, new syn gear oil in transfer case and differential, new electronics, new transmission pump cause they said mine is bad,1yr warranty,etc....

they gave me the option to choose what type of trans fluid to put in there so what do you guys think i should go with amsoil? royal purple?

What makes it a "Performance" rebuild?

and you'd probably get more quality answers if you posted this in the Automatic Transmission forum.

Wow, I guess that would be right for the cost of the TC, rebuild the trans, removal, and install. I'm not sure what the electronics would be unless you are having them install a TCUGO or something along those lines. I'm guessing the TC is around the $600 mark, the trans rebuild kit is about $500 and then the labor is for pulling trans, repair, and putting in.

I think you could get it done cheaper and better by IPT but not quite sure. Sounds like a good deal for a BUILT trans as you claim it's going to be.

well if i were to send it out to ipt i have to drop the trans and ship it out to them and thats gonna cost money. it would be cheaper then $2800 but my torque converter costs $450 to rebuild it so that brings the price up.

$450 to rebuild the torque converter,$1400 for labor,$150 for all new trans electronics,$75 for trans fluid and gasket,$825 for performance rebuild kit meaning everything.

I paid $1500 for everything brand new in my tranny, minus the end clutches, converter (but they had to open it up to clean it out) and electronics including the valve body. They installed all new clutches that are for a cummins diesel (more torque capacity), new shift kit, filter and gasket for that price. $650 of it was labor, and I pulled and installed the tranny.

If you want to save money, take the trans out and install it yourself. My shop quoted me $500 to take it out and $500 to install it.

yea i had them remove the trans and build it and put it back in so that bumped up the price.....its $2800 for everything new in it besides the hard parts side cause it was fine they said no need to replace stuff in there but they did put me a new front pump because mine was bad, rebuilt my precision industries torque converter, and replaced my soft parts with a performance kit, also got all new transmission electronics, new synthetic fluid in trans, differential, and transfer case, new gasket and filter, they found some burnt up wires and had to replace those to,etc...

Is it Perfect Transmissions in Palatine IL?

Who said and what reason does the Precision need a rebuild?

Who is rebuilding it for $450, the guys Perfect are going to send it too?

IF that converter needs a rebuild, don't even think of letting anyone other than Precision touch it. Local Joe's Converter Shop doesn't hold a candle to Precision.

Install alone is around $500 I'd bet so $2800 is on par for Imports getting bent over.

He posted in the OTHER THREAD, that Precision discontinued the converter and wouldn't do anything for him...

well bad news precision does not make that converter anymore it has been discontinued 8 months ago and they said they dont have parts for it so i had no choice...

your acting like i just ###ed up big time or somethin when i heard nothin but good things about perfect performance when they rebuild dsm transmissions for the automatic side....perfect performance even did auto rebuilds for ams customers even though ams recommends ipt.

as for the torque converter the only way to tell it needs a rebuild is by opening it so what choice do i have?

The converter probably just needs to be cleaned out..Might not be any debris in there at all, but its always good to check because of the tranny rebuild cost...If they just open it up and flush it out, then the price should be alot less than $450...
For example, my GM tranny shop charges $100 for a converter cut opened and flushed out...
I called Jack at Precision on this matter and he said the clutches are obsolete...I'm sure glad I didn't pursue trying to get one of their high dollar converters that they won't stand behind

yea it sucks i wish pi still made the converter i have! im def gonna see wtf is up but now i dunno how should i go about this since they already sent it out to open it and sht i mean what should i tell them at perfect? and what do u mean by the clutches are obsolete?

That's what Jack told me..I ask him who is higher up then him, he said the owner, and it won't do no good to talk to him he says...I have a hard time believing that there are parts in a torque converter that are obsolete..I guess they make so much $$ on Fords and Chevys that they don't need our LiL market....The number I called was 1-800-649-7866...

well they had to rebuild the torque converter because the clutches inside were blown....i got my car back already and im happy with it....how many miles does it take before i can race it since it has a rebuilt trans in it? is it ok to speed with it though? like how long is the break-in?

I have a Perfect Trans and know what they do, they don't rebuild converters they send them out to a place in Chicago that does restalls for $350 so take what you will from that. I think they are somewhat fair in pricing but their converters and rebuilt tranny pump stories are weak and make a nice $$ off of us.

I am surprised Precision wouldn't touch it to help out a paying customer and know someone who got a converter within the 8 month mark so I don't know what's going on over there.
Precision has been recommending to ditch the clutches in their 2g converters, I know someone who blew them in about 100 miles and was recommended to leave it as a non locker after talking with Jack.

You can beat on the transmission asap, I literally tested a governor in a rebuild right off the rack to get the shift point right in my other car, no worries.

Well my pi converter is 4yrs old LOL so I'm out of my warranty...so perfect rebuilt it they told me the clutches inside of it were all blown so I had no choice....

as for perfect performance I paid them $2800 for everything....they told me in another 1500-2000miles to come back so they can drop the fluid and refill it for free so that's good...the trans is in nice working order besides when I put it into reverse it makes this noise I dunno what that can be?

How long is your warranty for the rebuild and how many thousand miles do they cover?

I dont see how they knew that the pump was bad before they even had the transmission in their hands?:nono: Sounds like they take to replacing every part inside of the transmissions to cya. When you replace everything, their is no diagnosis involved and you are nothing more than a parts changer with a prayer.
