Tried to tKed my bep housing off the manifold and realized @1990talonawdtsi was right about how crappy their tapping is... 1 hole took all the threads with it... other snapped an arp stainless bolt.

Im not messing with that hard stainless so now to find a machine shop to pull the bolt and tap proper threads back into it for titanium studs

Woke up extra early this morning grabbed a fountain pop and some gas and drove aimlessly. Did some pulls, went down some twisty roads and enjoyed the car. Dear God I love DSM's.

Made Replica transmission barcodes , rented a small portable carpet cleaner from home depot and went through an entire bottle of cleaner while cleaning the floor, privacy cover and floor mats in my DSM. Also found my old collection of floor mats for 3kgt, Stealth and Laser so those all got deep cleaned as well.

Also fixed the floors from when one of the 5 previous owners apparently used a floor jack on the underside of the car WHERE YOUR FEET GO on BOTH sides that resulted in 2 huge floor "hills", with the aid of a 12lb sledgehammer 😆

When in doubt, some thicc zip ties (aka thiccties) work great 👍

Thanks to @JeffGS-T97 and @steve for the tips with the BISS screw and verifying the steps in Link. Was my first time doing anything in Link myself other than doing the "emissions dance" every 2 years. No more high idle. Intercooler/piping/netting, radiator hoses/flush complete.

Took car for a cruise. Stopped to talk to the mechanic at the exhaust shop about my truck and car wouldnt start when i got ready to leave because of an ongoing hotstart/no crank issue that I think Ive narrowed down to the starter itself. Getting much worse now. Got it started and drove it home. Guess removing the starter and getting it rebuilt is gonna be this weeks project. (Why under the intake manifold? )

I reassembled my knuckles with fresh Timken bearings and seals. Cleaned out the bearings and repacked then with red n tacky grease. Still waiting on the new studs to arrive then I'll press the hubs in.

Also embarrassed my mother at Easter brunch by presenting her with a carton of eggs.

Good job on the bearings, I never look forward to doing that job. Those cursed snap rings hang me up every time!

Fire help.

But yeah those things are such a PITA. Even using snap ring pliers I had a hell of a time getting them out. And without a press I don't know how anyone could do this job without damaging the bearings or the inside of the knuckles.

...I wonder how many toxic marshmallows you could roast before the fire burns out...

Went out to inspect the starter on lunch break. Put my hand down there under the elbow to see how easy it was going to be to reach both bolts.. The lower one with the yellow/black wire wasnt even tight.. So i tightened it and went around and made sure all the connections are solid.. i have to get a new battery because its 5 years old, but i think im going to see if loose wires have been my problem or been adding to my problem all along.

While looking around, I found a 17mm bolt sitting on the bottom "ledge" of the firewall.

Just threw the razor in there for size reference. Transmission bolt?

Yeah I’d say the loose ground wire on your bellhousing is absolutely the reason you have been having starting problems.

Kinda looks like one of the bolts that mounts the transmission mount bracket to the transmission.

Should be two on the front bracket that bolts to the roll stopper and 3 that bolt the rear bracket that mounts on the subframe.

Helicoiled my transmission mounting bolt holes 12x1.25

Pressed in my new studs and hubs (Tip: don't install the metal ringed inner seal until AFTER you press the hub in, because you'll need to press the inner bearing race back in when the hub pushes it out, and if you install the seal prior, it'll get pushed out or damaged.)

Spent hours reorganizing engine bay wiring and routing.

Ordered all new motor mounts, ditching the prothane.

Mounted my engine start button.

Ordered a replacement ash tray since mine disappeared.

Ordered a cheap OEM shifter boot for the little collar since mine also disappeared.

Check your rollstop bracket bolts. It could have come from there.

In the middle of the engine block on the back side between it and the firewall. 2 bolts hold the bracket to the motor (and you can't see them because the bracket hides them) and 3 hold the mount to the chassis, at least on a 1g. It is similar on a 2g but the bracket may bolt to the transmission, I'm not sure on the 2g exact bolt location.

Thanks, Ill check it... but where exactly is that? :)

On a 2g car in the center in the front if you look down where the bell housing meets the block there is a bracket bolted to the transmission with 2 bolts.

In the rear if you see the speed sensor, the sensor actually goes through the bracket. There is three bolts that hold that to the transmission. It will be easier to see under the car.

Pretty much it’s the two “motor mounts” that are in front of the motor and behind the motor. The bolt you showed looks to be one that holds the brackets to the transmission.

While you’re under there might want to make sure your “crank walk” bolt is there and tight on the block. It’s the only one that threads into the transmission from the block side. It’s 12mm and kinda long. Seems your transmission bolts are coming loose.

Do you happen to have a unsprung clutch disc?
