2G what clutch?

Right now Im making around 350AWHP with a 16g and my clutch is starting to go out. I am going for 500hp within a year with a 2.4l and high compression. What clutch should I get that would be able to handle to torque and drive it on the street a few times a week. Also i like to launch my car with 2 step.

I like clutch masters. I've heard good things about southbend tho. Act isn't a bad clutch gets a lot flack for heavy pressure plates but it's really not that bad.

No, that would be for your 500hp goal. Clutch companies worth their salt rate clutches in lb/ft of tq, as thats the actual work being done. Guessing 500hp is going to be 400ish lb ft of tq, while still giving you some dd capability.

You can always go up to the endurance or drag series (450 and 525 lb ft respectively), engagement will be more harsh with those two, and i wouldnt do a lightweight flywheel with them.

6 puck will engage harder and grip better/hold more usually, and resist stripping the clutch material off on launches. It really depends on how you drive it.

I would recommend southbound clutch. I run one, my brother runs one (382 wtq/433awhp) and they hold up great. Light pedal and easily slip able. I would go with an ssx pp with a b series disk,which I believe is a ceramic full face clutch. Talk to Tim Zimmer at tmz performance, he's the man.

I'm running 6 puck sprung kevlar. Haven't pushed past 300 since last dyno, bad comp.

But STD styles have given out by -300 .

There's alot of info of 6, 4 , ect.. puck material and applications..

Yeah if you are considering southbend its best to go through tim opposed to ordering off their website they do somthing special to the pivot point on the TZ series pressure plates that allows for a soft clutch feel with high clamp load at least this is the way i understand it.

Another vote for the South Bend. I have the SS-TZ clutch on my 92 Talon and love it. Very easy to drive on the street and has held up great with my small 16g at the drag strip.

Like what's said above, shoot a message to Tim Zimmer (screen name twicks69). He's a good dude that helped me solve a clutch engagement problem years after I bought a clutch off of him.

I've had some terrible luck with ACT. All of them seem to give out one way or another (broken springs, stripped splines, broken PP fingers). I now have a Competition Clutch stage 3 setup. Can't comment yet though as the car is still garaged.
