newbie need help!!! what clutch to buy?

hey guys i just bought a stage 3 clutch for a 97 eagle talon. the flywheel i got with it ended up not workin. the bolt pattern is the same but back side of the flywheel wont slide over the shaft. main point is i need to figure out how i can tell what clutch and flywheel to order. like the year and model.. maybe i got a tsi clutch kit for an esi car.. are they the same? i think i have the 420a motor with just a fwd trans. any help thanks

If its a second generation talon or eclipse, and it's not a convertible, and it's not turbo, it has the 420a. Easiest way to tell is if the engine is on the passenger side. If it is, 420a. So order parts for a non turbo 420a car. A tsi clutch will not work.

ok but i cant find any place that sells a decent priced performance clutch and flywheel that will hold up to the hp i have.. any suggestions? need help fast. want this car goin cant wait... hahaha

You could go with a cheap eBay 6 puck clutch. They are very grippy but I do not know how long they would last. You get what you pay for but when your looking cheap, eBay is always an option

I wouldn't ever go with a clutch that wasn't from a major name brand. Shitty clutches tend to fail amazingly, either taking out the flywheel or destroying a lot of shit in the event of the clutch exploding.

I saw a video of a Trans Am doing a burn out when the clutch blew up, not only did it destroy his trannies bell housing, the flywheel and of course itself but it also destroyed his hood with shrapnel and it also destroyed wires, hoses, and I think a piece even went through his firewall almost hitting him.

Most of the time they aren't that serious but why risk destroying lots of shit to save a couple hundreds bucks?

What hp numbers do you have? If you have high hp I would have to agree with Gusu, don't depend on cheap knock-offs.

right around 350 hp, my problem is finding a modular clutch conversion. bc my car was originally a nt so the flywheel is a 2 pc. and the flex plate is about as heavy duty as an escort flywheel. i have no problem finding a decent clutch from act but i dont wana spend 900 on a conversion kit to a 1 pc flywheel. i mainly need to find a good heavy duty flywheel that will go in a 97 esi thanks guys
