I want to atleast throw on a 14b and run it for a bit..

what all is needed to do this?

can I reuse my 2g exhaust manifold? I just want mid 13's out of the car for now..

I got a turbo xs RFL bov.. anybody heard anything about this?

I got to find a cheap MBC.. any reccomendations?

I got a unorthodox underdrive pulley.. anybody know anything about these?

There is a little more to just throwing a 14b on. You need a 2g install kit. I would highly recommend searching before you post. Odds are this will get closed because it has been discussed an infinate number of times already. Yes you can use your 2g manifold. Yes we have heard of the Turbo XS RFL bov...it will work good for what you are doing. I would go with a Joe P. MBC. For 45 bucks you can't beat the price. Underdrive pulleys are hit or miss. Some people use them. Some won't. I would just stick with the stock one. I read about to many problems people have with them on here.

This is what you will need to install a 1g turbo on a 2g correctly.

sorry.. didnt mean to piss off the mods..

the underdrive pulley is already installed..

how hard is it to install a MBC.. or to install a boost gauge?

Boost gauge is very easy to install. Just tee the nylon line into the appropriate vacuum line and wire it into your dash light. MBC is even easier. Just take 2 peices of vacuum line, run one from the wastegate to the MBC then the other one from the nipple on the j-pipe to the MBC. If you order one from Joe P. he will include instructions on which one goes where. If the pulley is already on just leave it.

awesome..

theres a local 14b for sale for 100$.. I'm purchasing it tomorrow and I was wondering what I should do with my 2g manifold.. would it be okay to throw the turbo on without porting it? would a 3inch downpipe that fit a T25 fit a 14b? whats the mess with the o2? is that really neccesary to port?

With a 14B you'll notice big gains over your T25 without porting, and the 2G manifold and o2 housing will bolt right up. Porting is a bi***, it takes a lot of time and you absolutely need a carbide tip bit and a die grinder....this is no job for a dremel. A 3" downpipe is a bit overkill for a 14B, and it's a HUGE overkill for the T25. Sometimes if your exhaust flows too well through the pipe and would rather go that direction than through the wastegate at wide open throttle, which leads to boost creep. I'm using a Big 16G with a 7cm ported exhaust housing and a 34mm wastegate flapper mated to a 2.5" exhaust system, and no boost creep issues. 2.5" systems have gone deep into the 12's and fit better than 3" systems, especially on FWD cars like mine.

That is correct. I would stick with 2.5" And any stock Mitsu. turbo will bolt right up to the manifold and o2 housing. I would recommend getting that kit though so you can replace your turbo gaskets and such to ensure you don't have any problems after install.

LOL I dont even know what a waste gate is..

this is aggravating .. going from domestic to this..

I've owned a 98 T/A 6spd LS1

and a 91 5.0 stang 5spd h/c/i

I got a 2.5 obx catback on the car now..

would I be better off just running 2.5 back? this is so confusing.. I've heard both ways with this.

Edit: I dont think obx makes a catback for my car grr.. I just bought this car and I dont know what all is on it..

No worries, there's tons of stuff to learn here. The wastegate meant to direct exhaust flow away from the turbo at wide-open throttle so that the turbo doesn't keep spooling faster and faster. On our cars the wastegate is part of the exhaust housing on the turbo.

Yes, you can reuse your 2g manifold. It will work just fine. To install the 14b on the car, you'll want a new oil feed line, which can be bought at RRE, SBR, or any other fine DSM vendor. You'll also want a 1g oil drain line, or you can file the bolt holes on the T25 drain line a little closer together on the turbo side of it so the bolt holes line up. New water lines are recommended, but not necessary, since you can swap and bend the lines a bit, then use longer rubber hose if you need to. You'll also need a J-pipe, of course. New gaskets are advised, as well, mainly the mani-turbo gasket, turbo-O2 housing gasket, and O2 housing-downpipe gasket.

Most of these things are included in RRE's full install kit, which makes life a whole lot easier, but if you're a DIY kind of guy, you can cobble something together for under $50, I'm sure.

The TurboXS BOV is a non-recirculating BOV, which means that you'll be losing air that has been counted by the ECU, which will make your car run rich and may affect performance. It's highly advised to recirculate your BOV until you get the proper parts to vent to atmosphere properly (read: MAF and Translator).

Now, porting, while time-consuming, is very crucial on some turbos to optimize their flow. There is a very good vfaq here. As mentioned, use a carbide bit and a good grinder with a hefty air supply and you could get most of the work done in about an hour. Use your 2g O2 sensor housing; it flows better. It will require a little porting on the wastegate outlet, but you can just match the gasket for the 14b to make the opening more "bell-shaped" instead of oblong shaped. The vfaq for it is here.

A 2.5" exhaust is just fine for a 14b turbo.

For a manual boost controller, a good cheap one is the Joe P. or the Hallman. Hallman's boost controllers can come with a few different accessories, like an in-dash control knob so you can change boost settings without stopping the car and opening the hood and such. I've had excellent performance out of the TurboXS High-Performance MBC, but some people have had bad experiences with boost spike with them. I think it's on a case-by-case basis, though. Either way, use a positive pressure source close to the compressor of the turbo for your boost source of the MBC. Some people will say that you should go from the BOV line, but it has been discussed before and found that the MBC acts like a boost leak in the line in some cases and can decrease BOV performance.

For the boost gauge install, here is a good write-up with pictures about which line to tee into. Don't use the white nylon line that comes with most boost gauges. It'll kink and crack and is very hard to work with. Buy a barbed fitting that screws on the back of the gauge and use regular NPT rubber hose.

Good luck with your 14b install. It's definitely better than the T25.
