So I pulled the motor tonight and found out my crank is shot. I'm looking into the DSMGraveyard evo9 piston/7 bolt rod/ crank deal for 775 but want others opinions. What should I do to the block machine wise, and what other options I have as far as pistons and such. I don't want a stock rebuild as I think its pointless. Any help appreciated.

So far my head has BC 272's, BC stage 1 springs/retainers and it was machined. So i only need to work on the block.
 
I've heard and personally had bad experience with DSMGraveyard myself so I personally would not do business with them again.
Have you looked into doing a forged bottom end?
 
I would like to but I don't know if i have the money for it. I have heard bad things about DSMGraveyard but not specifics. I want it to be a reliable 400-450 crank horsepower motor. I might not have the Turbo or head setup for it but I want it to be able to handle it when the time comes for a bigger turbo. I haven't even ran the car since I updated my profile, I pulled the motor to do the clutch and flywheel and to check the bearings.

7 bolt rods wouldn't be the way to go either way, with 6 bolt rods being both plenty strong for 450hp and easy to find for cheap. You could do well pairing 2g pistons with 1g rods and sourcing out a used crankshaft that needs no more than a quick polish. $250 should be enough for that rotating assembly. Have your block hot tanked, honed, and resurfaced as bare minimums.
 
For all the hassle, machine work, and strength of the end product, just go with a simple eagle/wiseco, or similar bottom end. For not much more than machining different STOCK parts to work, you can have a proven, solid bottom end. Leave the stock part lego builds to the honda crowd. 450 hp is possible on stock parts, with a perfect tune. One fillup with bad gas, an extra hot day, or any hiccup at all, and you are back to square one.
 
I don't want wisecos becausebi have heard bad things about them in our engines unless you get the hd's. I want eagle rods but I don't even know if I have all the money for this :mad: the car isn't a daily driver so that's not an issue but would like to drive it again :(
 
Your willing to spend nearly $800 on STOCK parts?
Get yourself eagle rods ($300) some forged pistons (average price is $500).
There you go..and then look for a used crankshaft, make sure it's legtit and get a good polish on it and bam!
All for what..$100 more?

This exactly what I was thinking of doing, getting DSMG's setup, but first..you have to make sure you rotate the pistons 180* and then I talked to RRE to see if they sell OEM Evo piston rings, they told me no to the fact that they are ridiculously expensive and that Evo owners RARELY just re-ring their blown blocks. After that, I asked about DSMG's rings, have they ever tried them?
All they said is that they are garbage that alot of their customers come complaining about the rings.
 
If cost is an issue you might just want to pick up a used 6 bolt or 7 bolt engine. What kills you isnt the cost of the big items it's all the small items, gaskets, arps, and machine work. That stuff adds up quick.

They both can handle 400hp. It's more in the tune than anything else.

I have a mint 7 bolt I would trade for a 98-99 4g64 "wink".

I'm looking into getting a 6 bolt shortblock but iI'm having no luck. Either people are saying they're built and have no proof, or just asking way to much money.

Hey homie build a bottom end yourself ...there is alot of bare 6 bolt blocks in the classified for sale ...them outfit the block with forged internals and i would go with extreme psi or Maperformance for the best price on any parts you need ...i my self has been using these two shops for 5 years now and have not had much problems and i just finish assembling my 6 bolt bottom end with parts from both shops ...good luck with the build :thumb:
 
I always buy my engine internals from maperformance. I find everything I want, and PM the vendor on here and they'll get me hooked up. I went with the Wiseco/Manley combo (not even the HDs) and they have held up GREAT. I put 50k on the block before I pulled everything apart to check it out and the pistons were in awesome condition. I've seen some older wiseco's with cracks on the bottom and around the skirts. But I don't think that will happen anymore with the newer Wiseco's. I'm building a 2.3 and am using Wiseco stroker pistons.
 
I just don't want to build a block with a 2 piece thrust bearing and put a heavy duty pressure plate in and have something bad happen. yea I know crankwalk is BS but if I have a chance to get a 6 bolt why not.
 
i bought wiseco pistons/ eagle rods and std sizecrank from maperformance.com 715.00 for piston rods 200 for rods

What ever makes you feel comfortable :). I've never heard of any built 7bolt having any problems.
 
Every 4g63 I've torn down that was supposedly crank walked was a non-split thrust bearing. And everyone that was torn down that WAS a split thrust shown minimal wear, even with 100k+ miles. I know there is a paranoia for crankwalk but it's so over played. If you have the extra cash - go with a 6 bolt - there is more to it than just a bottom end though. If you'd rather put that several hundred elsewear - stick with your 7 bolt.
