Well, my engine needs rebuilt.

The "cheap" route would be to pick up a running long block and call it a day.

I'd recommened that you have any engine that is in pieces check out by a shop to make sure it is good. Get it magafluxed. They can also measure it as well to make sure the deck isn't warped and the cylinders are not out of round. It's better "safe than sorry" when you are dealing with used parts. However, the machine work, if needed, can get expensive. As stated above, it's all the little things that add up! Using the machine shop example, they price each service individually; so it seems like not a huge amount.

Regardless, it may suck, but it is worth the extra money to "do it right" than to have to do it again a few months later.

If the OP doesnt mind me thread hacking on my personal build but i think its revelant to the issue u have also.

I got a question on a 7bolt rebuild.
with my gsx, should i be looking for any 7bolt 4g63 short block or do i need to specify that it needs to come from a turbo vehicle?
I'm also in the process of looking for a short block on my 2g gsx being all my blocks are worthless.
craigslist around my area shows a few 7bolt 4g63 blocks but doesnt specify if they are 4g63t or not.
Would it really matter?
If i do end up buying a 7bolt n/a, should i upgrade the pistons and rods reguardless?

Sorry for the thread hack, just dont wanna start another post, trying to stick to post ethics.

I would ask if the block came from a turbo or not because if it is a n/a motor u will need the turbo pistons. The n/a pistons or cast i believe and have a higher compression ratio than the turbo pistons. So yeah, if u picked up a n/a block u would need to swap out the pistons. And also, to the op, did you have your crank checked out by a machine shop? Usually if you can take your fingernail and run it accross the crank journals going in the direction of the crank centerline, and you "barely" feel a roughness on them a polish would normally take care of it. And i purchased my eagle/arias combo from craigslist bnib for 500 shipped. You just have to keep a eye out.

Well I did run my finger over it and felt what you were saying. Doesn't matter now that I got my 6 bolt, unless there's something unfortold with it. I still have to pull the pan and head.

Check the classifieds. I thought I saw a new set of Manley rods and pistons for
like 550.00 or close to it. That would be a hell of a deal. Manley makes good stuff. It is my understanding that Eagle rods are made in China and sent to the states to be quality control checked. Manley is made in the U.S and the quality is top notch.

Greg
