Welding on stock exhaust manifold

i've got a little project underway, and i need a header. The problem is that no one makes a header for the 4g37 motor. I was thinking about having the flange machined so a shop could make me one, but then I got to thinking about just cutting the manifold fro the flange and grinding it flat and making a header from there. The problem is that it's cast iron. Isn't welding on cast iron a no-no?

It's time-consuming to do well, involving pre-heat, careful heat control, and post-cooldown under heat. Iron sucks the heat out of the weld, then goes through contortions when cooling which usually lead to cracks. For durability, you're far better-off to build the whole thing.

If the 4g37 is a 2.0L non-turbo 1g then I know they make a header but I just don't know who. If it's the 1.8L... then you may be on your own.
