Question on stock Exhaust

A lot of exhausts neck down at turns, connections, Y's etc... It may be 2" piping, but if it's crush bent or not too well designed it will not be 2" the whole way through.

I'm thinking 2.5 inches is too big for an N/T. It will hurt low end torque.

The loudness will depend on whether you keep your cat, number (if any) of resonators, and type of muffler.

I have to say, I hope somebody can answer the original question. It would be a good bit of knowledge.

well, i could go with a 2 1/4" exhaust but it's hard for me to believe that a .25 of an inch makes that much difference, I was going to use a 2.5 press bent exhaust and I figured that all the bends would make it just as good as a 2.25" right? mandrel's too expensive and not worth it to me i my N/T, yes I currently have a high flow cat and 4" muffler but my flex section is rotted, is that causing me to lose torque?
yeah, if anyone has the info for the original question that would be great :thumb:

2G N/T and 2G Turbo FWD are both 2.25"... OD I think, but the walls are thin enough where ID is pretty close to that too.

Nope... I'm positive; I installed my own muffler and I needed to do some "custom" pipe routing [Autozone press bends for the time-being :) ]; it's 2.25". I know for a fact that the GS-T is the same too.

just as VelocitàPaola said, the gst had a 2.25" dp
just to make sure, this is the inside diameter right? and you say dp, how much does it change through the exhaust system? come on, one of you guys has got to have your old exhaust laying around somewhere :D

the id of the inlet is 2.25 im not sure of the rest of it b/c heat shield is on it still and ive never removed a stock one. id remove it to tell you b/c i got a new dsm but its so rusted on there that its not comming off w/o a saw

2gs gs is 2 inch o.d. front 2.25 o.d. cat back exhaust pipe is measured on outside diam. less approx 1\16 in for inside diam. gst front is 2.25 cat back same. Hope it helps 11year midas man Bye :thumb:

what is the size of our stock exhaust piping?

is it 2.5?

I got some 2.5 laying around my garage..and I have a 2.5 catback of some sort...

I was thinking I myself can delete the cat on it with the test pipe.. if I delete the cat that means from the downpipe I'd be running 2.5 back if there it was 2.5 piping..

then all I'd have to do is buy a 2.5 inch downpipe and I have a full turbo back system..

am I right or is my whole reasoning off becuase stock piping isnt 2.5?

The stock size is 2.25". I did a search for you on here and thats what I kept coming up with.

Stock is 2.25, not 2.5. Why would people bother selling aftermarket 2.5 if that was what stock was?

Although stock is just 1/4" smaller than most 2.5" aftermarket systems, an aftermarket exhaust is designed with maximum flow in mind. You can easily support an Evo3 Big16G with 2.5" piping. Eliminate your cat for the best possible flow....cars without cats have lower EGT's and are easier to tune. I wouldn't recommend jumping up to 3" with the stock T25 or even a 14B turbo. The 3" turbo-back will flow so well that the exhaust (taking the path of least resistance) would rather flow through the turbo rather than exit through the wastegate at wide-open throttle, which will lead to major boost creep issues. For your setup, stay with 2.5".

I guess it does say 2" I guess we learn something every day. Sorry, I was for sure it was 2 1/4" o, well.

Cool, ya I just went out and looked at it. It would have to be under the axel anyways. I could see a 3" exhaust scraping every now and then on a lowered car though
