weird water temp problem

ok... ive had this litte headache for a while now. when cruising on the highway. the temp will go up to 2/3 (cruising @ 3k rpm) so i turn on the heater. goes to 1/2.
i drive nice around town... slow, no problems no heater needed, i run real hard just fine... but about 30 sec later it starts climbing. Its really kinda anoying. All the fluiuds "appear" right, ive never OVERheated it... i stay on top of the problem.... HELP!

Few things.

The 30 second delay is because you have to give the energy time to get from the cylinder walls to the water.

You may have a clog in your system or more likely you have a thermostat that isn't opening all the way. The heater kinda goes around this.

Try removing the thermostat and see if it fixes the problem. If it does then just replace it with new.

I don't race squat this year. I am lucky to be driving around as the head on the car has a hole in it that I just liquid glassed up :O.

I will be happy if the car just manages to hold together through the end of the year when I will be buying a new one and I can tear this thing down to the frame rails and rebuild it with a huge liposuction procedure.
