so like 2 months ago my car started doing this weird noise and I have no idea where is coming from, it gets louder around the intake cam gear. I was thinking it could be the ac tensioner pulley.

There is non noticeable strange movement on any of the pulleys.

anyone experienced anything like this before, or a tip of how to identify it and fix it.

mostly I want to know if it sounds dangerous and i need to get it to a mechanic asap or if I could hold like another month till I get some money to do a complete timing belt job. The belt looks in very good condition but I bought the car like 3 years ago and want to make sure of what has been done by doing it myself.

car is pretty much stock I haven't used to much lately only on rainy days, I usually use my motorcycle, but I am planing on doing some mods on it soon ,reason I want to get all the maintenance.

more or less, sounds like something is rubbing either inside the timing cover against the belt, but check if NO wear, than could be on the outside. Never the less something is rubbing causing that noise. I would have it checked ASAP!

That's one of four things.

1 : Bad Timing Pulleys
2 : Bad Crank Pulley
3 : Your timing cover is rubbing somewhere.
4 : Bad Balance Shaft Bearing.

Tear it down and find out!

i just had my crank pulley gave out on me, and it sounded a lot like what you have, my only gave me about 30 miles before it tore things up oils cooler lines alt belt lower timing cover and started to dig in to my timing belt.
but like XiKeiyaZI said check it all and do it soon

Mine made that sound. Then, 30 minutes later, the timing belt was destroyed. Oil-pump pully nut backed out.

well according to previous owner last timing belt job was done in feb 2008. The car had around 50k miles on the odometer it has 61k (today). I bought it around sep 2009, he said he changed the belt and all pulleys and hydraulic tensioner all with OEM parts. The car was and still looks in great condition of course I don't trust 100% all of it but at least that what he said.

but I guess only way to find out and fix it is getting everything off and may as well replace. =/

oh and i meant the rollers not the outside pulleys, don't think the crank pulley has ever been changed.

60k miles = the limit for a timing belt job. :) This is the perfect time to do it.

yeah thanx for all the info , I removed all the belts including ac and still getting the same noise so like most said its either timing belt component or the crank pulley since I couldn't move that one by hand I will lift car tomorrow and see if the sound is louder from under.

so how do I determine if the crank pulley is bad?

I am hoping its the crank pulley, will be less expensive to replace and then I can save up for a full timing belt job. I don't want to take it to any mechanic to do timing and a good one that works with dsms will probably cost me more for labor than parts.

Pull off the Crank Pulley and inspect the rubber ring that connects the center hub to the outer one. If it looks old, brittle, or is breaking apart then replace it.

yeah but the thing is I removed all the belts and started the car and I was still getting the noise so unless the water pump moves with the timing belt it can't be that

also can I go with replacement Crank pulley or its almost obligatory to use OEM , I am not talking bout aluminium ones ( the replacement for OEM)

just came from mopar and OEM is 200 and replacement like 80.

I just paid $145 shipped for mine crank pullley from JNZTuning. Ive read the replacements only last a few thousand miles.

IF it is the balancer than go to rockauto.com and get the dorman part number 594106. They are really good quality and only like 50 bucks. To me that sounds more like you have a timing pulley in the process of locking up.

didn't notice any weird movement on the pulley and to be honest still not sure where the noise is coming from exactly. I noticed small crack lines on the damper rubber part, can see it in the picture. Could those be the cause of the noise??

next step I guess would be to take it out, can i turn on the car without the damper to find out it the noise stops or will it make a louder noise without it,
or I could try finding an used one or replacement for around 60 bucks and if that fix it, get an OEM one just to be done with it, if it doesn't solve the problem do the timing job like now with the help of my CC =(

anyways thank you all for your info and suggestions.

it could be the water pump as stated above but check all the little things first. take off pulley by pulley and if it stops making the noise then you know what it is

Yeah like I said before I removed all the belts started the car and still was getting the noise so its either timing belt or damper, those are the only things that move with all the belts off , but yeah I guess ill just order all the stuff I need for timing belt job from rock auto.

I have a 1g talon awd turbo, my car sounded like that, but loader, repair bill later, harmonic balaner and driver motor mount bad, making the back pulley on the back driver of block to rubbing into the engine block....Mmaybe look there??

How in the world did a bad balancer and motor mount make a pullet rub the engine block?
