Ok, my belts started to make that loud screetching noise when I would start the car or run the heater/air or re-defrost. So I thought the belts must be bad. Replaced the belts and the noise is still there. Someone said it could be my pulley bearings or pulleys. Just curious if this could be it.

Also heard you couldn't just replace the bearings/pulley that you had to buy the entire unit the pulley was connected to? Any help would be great cause its really annoying.
thanks

Also to note. it only does it for awhile then goes away and my engine is 1.8 . thanks again

Make sure the new belts are at the right tension, spray some belt dressing and see if it helps. If not, check the crank pulley (big one on the bottom) if it's whobbly, it could be at the beginning stage of seperation.

thanks oldman ill give that a look.. if that happens to be the problem.. can i just replace the part.. or do i have to buy the entire unit its connected to. Which is what the guy at advanced told me.?

No, he's wrong. You can change just the crank pulley (harmonic balancer) but the hard part is to make sure it's the crank pulley.

i found the belt causeing the noise. Its the belt closes to you when your looking down.. it goes around 2 pulleys im not sure which belt that would be.. but when i start up its very loud and kinds smells like rubber is burning but the second i would put some like wd-40 on it.. it would stop the noise and the smell...? any ideas the belts are brand new

i had the same fricken noise. i took mine to midas and waht had happened was they didn't tighten the belts enough. Or what they said was that the belts being brand new expanded a little as they broke in. try tightening everything, that should fix it :thumb:
