so like 2 months ago my car started doing this weird noise and I have no idea where is coming from, it gets louder around the intake cam gear. I was thinking it could be the ac tensioner pulley.

There is non noticeable strange movement on any of the pulleys.

anyone experienced anything like this before, or a tip of how to identify it and fix it.

mostly I want to know if it sounds dangerous and i need to get it to a mechanic asap or if I could hold like another month till I get some money to do a complete timing belt job. The belt looks in very good condition but I bought the car like 3 years ago and want to make sure of what has been done by doing it myself.

car is pretty much stock I haven't used to much lately only on rainy days, I usually use my motorcycle, but I am planing on doing some mods on it soon ,reason I want to get all the maintenance.

Also sounds like the timing belt tensioner pulley has come loose, how much slack is in the T-belt between the cam gears when the engine is shut off?

there;s a lot of noises going on in there

so a local mechanic who specialize in evos quoted 175 for labor does that sound ok? HE also said sound was internal Timing Belt after watching the video.
he is a very known racing mechanic and has like 3 10 seconds evos himself....

I think I could find someone cheaper but I prefer to be safe than sorry....

now to find out good brands for the parts
I am thinking OEM or Regular Gates for belt and OEM seals. I don't think I want to pay $200ish for OEM water pump...

Gates belts are find. They make our OEM belts. Gates water pumps are fine aswell. I would get OEM everything else though.

i saw that kit but it was 90 to 94 mines a 97 are all those parts completely interchangeable?

Hey about testing that crank pulley- I used a bright paint stick to run a line from the inside of pulley to outside of pulley (over the rubber) so over time I could easily check if the outside has moved relative to inside. Anybody else do this? I don't know if I agree with the visual cosmetic condition that's why I went that route. Figuring it would give me a warning its starting to slip since they don't just all of a sudden spin out of control like Sonic the Hedgehog.

*You need a timing kit for a 95-99. The only thing interchangeable is the idler pulley and T belt

Yeah thats what I tought , anyways I ordered from partsdinosaur the kit and water pump and ill get the seals and auto tens from my local mopar , expensive but not so sure about dayco one from rockauto , hopefully the noise gets fixed and it isnt another part! ><

Had the same sound twice.. once when my ac was going out. I just cut the belt for the time being. The second occurrence was when I had the vc leaking and oil stretched my timing belt. After that it got so loose it was skipping around on the tensioner pulley.. check your tensioner too, Couldn't hurt

Whats goin on guys? I dont want to jack the thread but my motor is doing the same exact thing. It is newly built. New water pump from gates, and complete new timing set from the dealer. OEM BSE as well. I did have my AC belt too tight and when I loosened it up it quieted down a little but still very audible. It was the first time that I've started the motor too. You guys think that maybe I messed up the pulley. I also noticed aluminum shavings on the top of the mid timing cover right above the water pump. Nothing is rubbing from what I can see. With it being new I dont want to have a catastrophic failure before its even broken in.

Just wondering if anything was figured out here? I have just done my timing belt and pulleys and auto tensioner and after about a month im getting a vary similar sound. on the positive side i have gotten it to stop by spraying the alternator and water pump belts with belt dressing. this belt dressing is suppose to quite belt noise and increase the life of the belts. only thing is once the car has sat and is cold the sound comes back but after driving for about 20 minutes is gone again  any help is vary appreciated thanks.
