I opened up my ecu today to see if my new dsm had an eprom and noticed this weird residue on a few different spots. I was wondering if its anything to be concerned about? The ecu actually looks brand new. The caps are perfect with no signs of any leaks what so ever. There is no other discoloration or burnt spots anywhere on the ecu. It kinda has a faint fishy smell but I don't know if its just my paranoia messing with me. I've opened up quite a few ecu's and have never seen this residue before.

If you mean the clear yellow/brown film, thats lacquer. Its suppose to be there.

It protects the copper and metal parts from oxidizing and corroding.

All ecus and most automotive electronics have a lacquer coating.

I know about the lacquer/waxy film but I've never actually seen it look like this before that's what made me concerned. Other than that this ecu looks mint.

Thanks
