waterpump job 1g 6bolt timing marks problem

I'm doing a waterpump, headgasket, and timing belt job on my 1g and I'm running into a problem. All timing marks line up except the crank. It lines up where the dowel pin is. I have no balance shaft belt and the belt on there is a Mitsubishi one. I'm wondering if this damaged anything and if its ok to just go ahead and re time it after all the work. Thanks

My only guess is when you removed the head that the cams got rotated while disconnected or the crank got moved. Either way when you had them disconnected something got moved.

problem is nothing was removed yet.

If you haven't touched a thing, and you got piston #1 at TDC, and all of your timing marks aren't lined up, you might have a LOT more work than you thought on your hands.

Did you happen to remove the backing plate on the crank sprocket and possibly flip it over when you put it back on?

No sir, the guy I got it from said he did the timing belt and theres pry marks on the metal cover behind it. Car did run fine. (I haven't done a timing job on this car before.)

Doing t belt, headgasket, and waterpump. Theres no balance shaft belt on it.

How do I check for bent vavles? I redid it with all marks lining up.

I wish i would have know about the scammer I bought it from before hand.
