so I want to put a 1g black top cas in my 2g...
I have link v3 full and a 98 gsx.
What I need is a list of everything to make it work smothly.
Thank you.

ps. didn't know where to put this so please move if nessacery.

It is far easier to just drill and tap the cam, than to switch over the 1g cas. It will also save you the headache of random misfires.

Don't do it:nono: Trust me. I know you are thinking man if I can put a 1g cas on my car i can set my timing where I what. Don't do it. As was stated above you are wasting your time.

maybe a waste of time but i really dont have almost a grand to shell out for another set of cams, and i would stick with the hks 272 combo because I love them..and when i had my 6bolt swap I had to check off non 95-99 cas in my dsmlink

Very easy to have machine shop to tap cam. 25.00

I don't get why everyone is saying don't do it??? You have link so that will take care of random misfire, and let you ground the timing to set base timing. Wiring in a 1g Cas is also easy to do. Maybe I'm missing something, but I have never had a problem with my 1g Cas.

Are you kidding?? its so easy its stupid to put a 1g CAS on a 2g fallow the RRE link given before Basically you mount the 1g cas on the head. if you dont have a pig tail you can use a pig tail off the TPS on a 2g. Ik CAS pigtails are hard to find. now take and unplug your stock 2g CAS and Crank angle. Basically both plugs have 3 wires a total of 6 the 1g CAS has 4. on the stock cas plug i believe the wire colors are black blue with a stripe and red take the black nd red off the stock CAS. no take the crank angle plug and the wire colors i believe are black red and blue al you need is the blue forget the red and black their the same wires a the CAS wires. now take the black red and blue with a stripe off the CAS and the blue from the crank angle. wire these to your pigtail RRE will tell you the order to do it. next you need to switch your plug wires swap 4 and 2 than 1 and 3 and last your injector wires at the ecu RRE will guide you through this with diagrams iv never had problems with misfire.ROFL

You just need the CAS and a coulpe of pigtails or you can buy the premade harness from RRE.

RRE Instructions

I have a 1g cas on my 7 bolt. I had my cam drilled and tapped but it was done wrong and I didn't find out until I had already installed the cams and the bolt wouldn't go in. I had a 1g CAS laying around , slapped it on and made a harness and its been fine, I have never gotten any random misfires or had any problems with it.

Bringing this one back. So with link in a 95(95 ecu as well) you have to swap firing order. That i know. But you still have to rewire injectors on ecu?? I thought dsmlink elimated the need for that by clicking the non 95-96 cas box.

I dont want to deal with a crank sensor, thats why im looking in to it. Its just one more thing to go wrong.

I'm also wondering the same thing. Did the CAS swap, checked box in DSMLink and it seems to run ok. I didn't do any swapping at the ECU bc I assumed DSML took care of that.

Thats what i thought. RREs instructions for the 95-96 ecu +1g cas are a bit dated. cool, anyone else w a 2ga ecu did this?

If you are using a 2Ga ECU with a 1G or 2Gb CAS you will need to swap the plug wires and check the box in the ECU config tab to “Use non-95/96 style cam angle sensor”. More info HERE

Yup, when you check "Use non-95/96 cas" the ecu will invert the signal, so there is no need to swap the injector pins.

I recently installed a 1g black-top cas on my 2gb 7bolt (with 95 ecu) and it ran perfectly fine. However, I did experience random misfire DTCs (not actual misfires), which is typical for a 1g cas. You just have to disable the misfire DTC check and ignore it.

Magnus motorsports has a write up on this, all you have to do is turn of the missfire code, I have one on my 7 bolt 2g

I dragged this one up from the grave bro, hes probably not around. I was just curious, got my answer though.
