vr-speed/ssac fmic overheating issues

It's a fairly large core. I'd suggest keeping your stock fans and having the ability to run them both or turn one off at cruise (dsmlink).

Personally, I run two 13" SPAL 1710cfm fans. I could probably suck up a small child at idle.

I have the ssac kit and 2 slim fans so far no overheating. I installed the fans along with a mishimoto rad 2 weeks ago. it hasnt got to summer temps yet here in florida so im still waiting. When I had my stock fans i never over heated or had any issues.

I think the only people who have cooling issues are the 2GB guys who don't trim the bumper properly.

I had overheating issues w/2 different 2g's w/the ssac front mounts. I sold both. I just got another 2g and have gone w/a smaller greddy fmic.

This is why I went with a 3 inch CXracing core instead of the VR-speed 4 inch.

Our FMIC is 3.5" and to be perfectly honest I never had any overheating issues with the stock fans in 95+ summer weather up here in MA with my old 2g :)

All OEM with about 86k miles. Just a well taken care of properly working cooling system. The only modification was the water pump that was replaced at 60k miles with another OEM unit :)

never had an overheating issue with the vrspeed/ssac core. oem tstat, radiator, fans, waterpump.

check your cooling system if you are having issues. this was on a 97-99 bumper, black part cut off, no 5mph bumper support

dont 2gb bumpers flow more than 2ga ?

I would assume they do when not shoving a huge front mount in the only opening. Otherwise, with a kit in there I would say smiley flows more as it still has access on the side of the front mount itself to get to the rad if you remove the fogs (most cases 2ga fogs don't fit with a front mount anyways).

If my temps go up after my pr kit install I plan to route the foglight holes on my 2gb front to throw air behind the front mount to the rad anyways, another cheap easy fix. I don't really care to have fogs though, I guess some would prefer them.

The 2gb bumper will provide better flow in comparison to the 2ga. The 2ga cuts off a good section of the upper part for the radiator & fmic.

Ive had my ssac fmic for over a year with no over heating issue. Only cooling fan I use is the stock passenger side, been running with out a thermostat, and 5 or more coat of paint on the radiator.

No problems with one stock fan.. I removed my AC fan because it was mellllttttinnngg LOL... Never one issue...

just an update. Ive fixed my a/c and its hitting the 90s here in florida. My car started to overheat for the first time with the a/c on. This sucks.

I'm in the hot humid weather of south florida here in miami and i have no cooling issues whatsoever wit the vrs fmic. Wether i have the ac on or not my engine temps always stays in the middle and never passes higher than that, and yes i do have the black trim cut off as well on my 2gb bumper.

I had to run 3 fans full time to stop from getting hot in my gvr4. 2 pullers, and the factory a/c pusher. Also straight water and water wetter. Where i live no a/c isn't an option. Summer temps consistantly reach 115+. Now, even in traffic i don't go much over 200*. I have an old ets kit, that covers most of my bumper vent. I saw a mid 90's firebird the other day and they have no bumper vent, how does that work?

hey sry to bring up and old thread but i've been reading thru these post and most guys here that have bought the VR SPEED FMIC aren't complaining about overheating. im getting my vr speed fmic delivered tomorrow :D and I was wondering if anybody is suffering overheating issues and what they have done to help resolve the overheating issue with this kit.....

I was worried about overheating but haven't had any major issues out of my car. Make sure system has clean coolant and no air in it. I do have the fan switch mod on my car in case it ever got crazy but never really did. I also completely removed bumper support and the bracket to allow as much air as possible. My bumper is very sturdy considering them both being gone. I just made sure it was a tight fit with the fmic and didn't trim alot off.

yeah my system is clean/ fresh coolant as i just replaced my timing belt/water pump. This car is my daily driver and it would suck if i get overheating issues on it with my fmic installed. the only thing i was planing on doing was to cut off the black part from my bumper and trim sum or the bumper support off as well. and maybe have the fans running all the time. one thing i've been wondering as well is that by having the fans on all the time does this make the ECU throw a check engine light??
