volts are dipping and picking back up??

Ok I just got a 150amp alternator from AlterStart. I installed it today and took her for a ride. I noticed that after driving down the street I come to a stop and the volts dip to like 12 then I start driving again and they go back up to 13. Is this normal? Does anyone have any information for me about this?

With the engine running you should be at 14v. I would double check every connection and if that still doesnt fix it contact the alternator manufacturer and see what they say.

Your voltage needs to be at least one Vol more than fully charged battery voltage(12.6v). I have been taught that 13.8v to 15.2v is really what you need. You obviously have a charging problem.

I have a brand new alternator. Could it be my wiring? What wiring should I replace? I have a loose wire from my A/C that i disconnected. I didnt do anything with the wire. I just taped it up. That bad?

Just make sure all your grounds are good, any bad ground will cause voltage issues. You should at FULL load (Headlights, AC on Full etc) should read around 13.2-13.5V and around 13.8-14.5 with no load. By the way, don't just tape up wires you should fix them. Wires are there for a reason right .

I would of also of said a bad voltage regulator would cause weird dips in charging voltage, but you said you have a new 150AMP alternator which should be more than enough to handle a DSM which have alternators rated at 75 AMPS in the USA and 90 AMPS in Canada.
